Skills Trainer – Oak Grove Academy (Temp & Regular)

Location:

Multiple locations – Gales Creek and Tom McCall Upper Elementary.

Hours:

6.5 per day.

Start date:

Aug 19, 2026. Salary: $23.32–$29.17 per hour.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provides intensive behavioral support in and outside the classroom using methods such as redirecting, positive reinforcement, collaborative conversations, and planning with students as aligned with the program model.
  • Coaches students to focus on the acquisition and practice of social, emotional, and academic skills.
  • Provides individual and small‑group direct instructional services to students under the supervision of a licensed staff member.
  • Performs crisis intervention and physical management according to OIS training as needed to maintain safety of students, staff, and facilities.
  • Rides district buses in the morning and afternoon as needed, ensuring student safety and applying OIS techniques on the bus.
  • Provides constant supervision of students, especially during transition points (e.g., meals, breaks, restroom) in conjunction with other staff members.
  • Monitors and documents student progress as directed.
  • Assesses continually the needed level of intervention to support learning activities in the classroom.
  • Collaborates with mental health and classroom staff to understand student skill levels, characteristics, strengths, disabilities, learning modalities, and objectives.
  • Understands and adheres to mandatory reporting laws, reporting suspicions of abuse, neglect, self‑harm, or endangerment to the Clinical Director or designated substitute.
  • Supervises student activities, paying particular attention to transitions in the school day.
  • Establishes and maintains a rapport with students characterized by professionalism and respect.
  • Adapts interaction style for the needs of individual students.
  • Protects confidentiality of information related to students and families.
  • Conducts searches of students as needed by the program.
  • Maintains familiarity with program safety protocols, implementing required instruction, drills, and procedures.
  • Attends and actively participates in regular department and other staff meetings.
  • Collaborates with other staff to provide creative solutions for challenging student situations.
  • Mentors peers as requested to assist with orientation and training of new staff or staff new to the position.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Confers regularly with immediate supervisor.
  • Demonstrates professionalism and appropriate judgment in behavior, speech, and dress.
  • Maintains consistent and predictable attendance to meet position requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Education: High‑school diploma or equivalent; 72 quarter hours of accredited college or passing score on District HQ Assessment. Bachelor’s degree preferred, but not required.
  • Experience: 1–2 years working with behaviorally at‑risk children, or an equivalent amount of education and experience.
  • Skills: Operates a computer, office machines, telephone, and other technology equipment. Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills. Strong organizational skills. Ability to respond sensitively to cognitive and physical handicaps (e.g., Autism, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy). Proficiency in basic arithmetic, teaching, and clerical functions. Background in a variety of subject matter (reading, social studies, mathematics).
  • Knowledge: Principles of child development and instructional processes.
  • Abilities: Works harmoniously with others; communicates effectively with students, parents, and school personnel from diverse cultures. Works independently with minimal supervision. Concentres on multiple tasks simultaneously. Learns quickly and applies appropriate teaching methods. Manages student behavior using verbal and physical cueing. Physical abilities include lifting, reaching, walking, and handling up to 40 lbs. Maintains confidentiality of student records and follows school policies.
  • Clearances: Pre‑employment criminal justice fingerprint clearance and criminal background check.
  • Citizenship/Residency: Required for employment.
