This position functions under the direction of licensed educators and operates within established systems of student support. The work is somewhat recurring and routine although the position may occasionally encounter some variations from the norm and is encouraged to suggest ways for handling these. The final action is approved by a supervisor. This position has little to no planning responsibility beyond the need to schedule own work and determine impediments to own work schedule.

• Have a high school diploma or the equivalent;
• Be at least 18 years of age;
• Bilingual (would have to pass an assessment with an advanced low level score to qualify);
• Have standards of moral character as required of teachers (OAR 584-005- 0005).

• Completed two years of study at an institution of higher education; or obtained an Associate’s (or higher) degree; or met a rigorous standard of quality and demonstrate through a formal state, or local academic assessment or para-educator certificate program, knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing:
  Reading, writing, and mathematics; or reading readiness, writing readiness, and mathematics readiness, as appropriate (Assessment is offered by District).

• 1-2 years experience working as an educational assistant in a k-12 school district.
• Some college coursework.
• Previous experience learning to speak and write in a second language.

  Schedule:
  
  $18.69- 23.56/hr, AFTER successful completion of assessment, wage scale will be $19.61-$24.52/hr
  * 26-27 wage schedule TBD.
• Work days: 180 (10 month).
• Medical, dental and vision insurance.
• Life insurance, AD&D, Long term disability included (Optional insurances available).
• Personal days, Sick days.
• JCSD 509-J pays the employee's share (6%) of the Public Employees Retirement System Contribution.
