CTE Agriculture/Plant Science Teacher & Conservation Corps Leader Transition Specialist (1.0 FTE; 0.5 Certified Teacher 0.5 Classified Transition Specialist)
Al Kennedy High School (2026-27)
Al Kennedy High School serves approximately 80 students in an alternative education setting. School staff coordinate closely to provide services to students.
The position involves development and instruction of high‑school Agricultural Science, Plant Science, and/or Horticulture curriculum for grades 9‑12. The role also involves overseeing the Kennedy Conservation Corps (Crew) and Quamash Prairie programs, leading students in wetland mitigation work, and managing Conservation Corps grants.
Key Duties- Develop and deliver high‑school agricultural and plant science instruction for grades 9‑12.
- Create meaningful student relationships and engaging lessons.
- Integrate the school garden, native plant nursery, orchard, and greenhouse into curricula.
- Lead and supervise Conservation Corps crew in wetland mitigation work at Quamash Prairie.
- Remove invasive species, plant native species, clear fallen trees, perform brush fire suppression.
- Host field trips to the wetland for students.
- Write and report on grants for Army Corps of Engineers, Oregon Youth Conservation Corps, Bureau of Land Management, and Forestry Department.
- Carry out train and camp maintenance; fire prevention/mitigation; build defensible spaces.
- Valid Oregon Teaching License with appropriate CTE and/or Science endorsement.
- Successful experience teaching science at the secondary level.
- Knowledge of effective instructional practices and student behavior management strategies.
- Ability to plan, implement, and assess instruction aligned with district curriculum and goals.
- Strong written and verbal communication; collaborative skills with students, families, colleagues, and administrators.
- Hands‑on, applied science instruction in classroom and field settings.
- Knowledge of natural resources, environmental science, forestry, agriculture, plant science, or related fields.
- Supervision of students during outdoor learning, field studies, and work‑based learning.
- Commitment to supporting at‑risk students and fostering engagement through experiential learning.
- Collaborative planning, problem‑solving, shared decision‑making skills.
- Flexibility and adaptability to meet diverse student needs.
- Experience teaching environmental science, natural resources, forestry, agriculture, horticulture, plant science.
- Professional, educational, volunteer, or industry experience in natural resources, forestry, agriculture, horticulture, conservation, environmental stewardship.
- Experience developing partnerships with community organizations or industry partners.
- Experience working in alternative education settings.
- Success implementing project‑based and place‑based learning strategies.
- Ability to differentiate instruction for students with diverse academic, behavioral, and social‑emotional needs.
Salary: $42,293 to $72,899 per year, or determined by teaching experience and degree level in accordance with the licensed salary schedule and Transition Specialist salary schedule.
