Salary: $52,317 – $102,607
A substitute teacher is responsible for providing instruction, managing the classroom environment, and promoting student learning in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. This position supports all school locations across the District on a daily basis to fill teacher vacancies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Reports to the principal or designee upon arrival to assigned building.
- Follow all policies, rules, and procedures to which regular teachers are subject, and apply good teaching practice.
- Comply with all applicable District, state, local, and federal laws, rules, and regulations.
- Maintain appropriate licenses and training hours as required.
- Remain in the assigned classroom until the end of the assigned substitute time.
- Oversee pupil behavior, review plans, duties, and schedules with the principal or designee, teach the outlined lesson, and maintain established routines and procedures of the school and classroom.
- Establish and maintain standards of student behavior to achieve a functional learning environment and effective participation in all activities.
- Create and maintain an active, responsive climate for learning.
- Adhere to all standards established by TSPC for Competent and Ethical Educators.
- Understand and relate to the needs of students of diverse ethnic, cultural, educational, and socio-economic backgrounds.
- Maintain prompt and regular attendance.
- Additional duties may be assigned at any time at the discretion of the district.
- Knowledge of instructional theory and best practices, curriculum, district, state, and federal education laws, regulations, and policies.
- Physical abilities to stand and walk for prolonged periods, perform a variety of tasks, and lift/carry/reach objects up to 50 pounds.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Complete a daily report or evaluation of any pertinent information resulting from the day’s events.
- Report safety, sanitary, and fire hazards immediately to the front office.
- Interact thoughtfully and courteously with students and staff.
May supervise volunteers, student aides, and instructional assistants. All school employees have some responsibility for supervising students and maintaining a safe environment.
QUALIFICATIONS- Oregon teaching license with any endorsement.
- Oregon Driver’s License to travel between schools during the workday.
- Good communication, conflict resolution, and teamwork skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to perform basic math operations and apply common sense to carry out instructions.
- Proficiency with database, internet, email, and word‑processing software; preferred: ESIS, MS Word, Outlook, and Excel.
- Valid CPR/First Aid card.
