Part Time. Salary: $16.46 to $23.58 per hour.

Job Description

The person in this position is supervised by the building administrator and may work in a number of settings including special‑education classrooms and the regular‑education classroom. This person will work with students in groups and individually, providing academic and behavioral support to students. Responsibilities and tasks include working with students to provide support in academic areas in both mainstream and special‑education classroom settings.

Other duties may include preparing materials, providing general supervision at lunch and passing times, and other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Under the direction of a licensed teacher, providing supplemental practice in various learning experiences, including drills and activities using learning strategies designed to reinforce or modify skills.
  • Demonstrate regular and acceptable attendance and punctuality, as set forth in Board policy.
  • Be familiar with and adhere to all relevant District Board policies, administrative regulations, and building rules.
  • Interact thoughtfully and courteously with students, staff, parents, and community members and resolve conflict in a professional manner.
  • Work independently and cooperatively in teams with other staff members and students.
  • Attend staff meetings.
  • Attend in‑service and workshop trainings; apply training to instructional responsibilities.
  • Complete appropriate logs, forms, and paperwork, as required.
  • Report safety, sanitary, and fire hazards immediately to supervisor.
  • Report issues to authorities as necessary, including animal control and suspicious activity.
  • Operate and troubleshoot office machinery.
  • Assist students before and after school as part of Safety Patrol.
  • Assist in planning and implementing learning experiences for students.
  • Help students develop positive interpersonal relationships with peers and adults; promote safety by fostering self‑confidence.
  • Observe students and assist in recording student development and progress; inform supervisor of any unusual academic or disciplinary problems.
  • Train and assist students in behavior management; provide education regarding appropriate interpersonal actions; respond to discipline problems; act as a role model.
  • Prepare materials related to the area of assignment; copy materials; develop visual aids, certificates, and charts; collect and distribute supplies and equipment.
  • Supervise students before, during, and after school on the playground, in the hallways, or on entering or leaving the classroom.
  • Perform duties in a library; assist students with locating books; read stories to students.
  • Operate a computer to take attendance and to do basic data entry assignments.
  • Oversee and supervise students during classroom activities in a variety of school settings, on field trips, at lunch and recess, ensuring safety and security at all times.
  • Maintain a safe and secure environment for students at all times.
  • Maintain discipline in the absence of the teacher.
  • Evaluate student injuries, determine course of action, perform minor first aid, and complete required paperwork in compliance with Board policy.
  • Assist with daily attendance, registration, bus lists, referrals, and enrollment records.
  • Be visible around campus and adjoining neighborhoods for monitoring and intervention of attendance needs.
  • Make home visits, in collaboration with the district safety officer, to discuss attendance issues with parents or guardians and students.
  • Participate in referral‑driven and strengths‑based intervention services to students and families where irregular attendance is an issue.
  • Based on Oregon Attendance Laws, use necessary interventions for referred students where truancy is an issue.
  • Provide early intervention services with referred students who are beginning to demonstrate irregular attendance.
