General Duties

The music teacher promotes and develops successful learning for students in all K-12 music classes. The teacher also performs instructional and related duties as they pertain to the state and district standards in music education. The music teacher must perform duties in accordance with District policies and terms of the teacher contract. The teacher also maintains a cooperative attitude with staff, parents, and students.

Required Qualifications
  • A valid State of Oregon Teaching License appropriate for the position
  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Music Education from an accredited institution
  • The ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • The ability to effectively work and communicate with students, parents, and school personnel from diverse cultures and/or backgrounds
  • The ability to work harmoniously with others
  • Proficient oral and written communication skills in English
  • Proficient in the use of computer and Internet based applications, including but not limited to email and systems applications
  • The ability to learn new automated systems as they are brought online by the District
  • Possess the musical skills and knowledge to teach the required curriculum
  • Maintain integrity of confidential information relating to students, staff, or district patrons
Essential Responsibilities
  • Cultivate and model a respectful working and learning environment
  • Annually pass the District's required online training by the District's assigned due-date
  • Follow site and/or District protocol for reporting absences
  • Maintain current licenses and/or certificates required for the position
  • Utilize the District's electronic systems and applications related to the job
  • Have a thorough understanding of the requirements related to state and district standards in music education
  • Be capable of developing course goals related to state and district standards in music education
  • Use techniques and introduce appropriate methods of teaching that enable all students to meet the state and district benchmarks for music education
  • Provide a variety of classroom techniques and methods
  • Differentiate instruction to promote high levels of achievement
  • Individualize techniques and methodologies appropriate to student ability
  • Use adopted district curriculum and appropriate supplementary materials
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and ability to use research‑based principles of effective instruction
  • Organize instruction using learning objectives with clearly defined student outcomes
  • Employ teaching strategies congruent with planned student outcomes
  • Monitor student learning and pace instruction accordingly
  • Develop and maintain an environment conducive to effective student learning
  • Develop written rules of classroom management aligned with the school wide behavior plan
  • Implement, communicate and post rules for classroom behavior
  • Provide for the health and safety of students in all instructional settings
  • Prepare effectively for instruction
  • Prepare daily standards based lesson plans
  • Provide instruction predicated on course goals and objectives
  • Develop and communicate appropriate grading standards to students
  • Establish written grading standards clearly aligned with District and school practices and incorporate a variety of graded activities
  • Assure that grading standards are explained and available to parents
  • Develop and maintain positive interpersonal relationships
  • Model personal behaviors of honesty, fairness, courtesy and consideration
  • Maintain a cooperative relationship with administration, staff, students and parents
  • Share appropriate information with parents and with other staff members
  • Provide documentation of student's progress
  • Communicate ongoing, timely, and accurate feedback/documentation to students, parents and appropriate staff members
  • Maintain appropriate records of student performance
  • Build motivation and interest in learning
  • Exhibit personal interest and encourage student interest in the subject area related to music education
  • Maintain a current awareness of engaging musical activities
