Instructional Aide - Sherwood Charter School

Job SummaryInstruct and supervise a diverse group of students by establishing a positive, respectful environment, providing ample and varied learning opportunities and promoting high standards of performance for all students during car line, lunch, recess and while in the classroom.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Supervise students while maintaining a harmonious atmosphere during lunchtime and/or playtime.
- Circulate lunchroom to encourage peaceful conflict resolution, clean spills, and provide additional assistance as needed.
- Set up and clean up lunchroom, organize group games and activities.
- Perform playground assessment for safety and equipment conditions and report concerns to the principal.
- Report disciplinary and other concerns to the building administrator and/or classroom teacher.
- Provide assistance for students requiring additional educational guidance.
- Model and teach respect with awareness of diversity.
- Work effectively with people from diverse cultures or backgrounds.
- Create a flexible environment favorable to learning and professional growth.
- Motivate students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed for continued education.
- Adapt and modify instruction for students identified as needing specialized instruction.
- Collaborate with diverse student, staff and community populations.
- Assist teachers in maintaining classroom order by keeping students on task and performing specific duties as assigned.
- Assist school administration in implementing all policies governing student conduct and reinforcing the school's positive behavior support plan.
- Use office equipment to assist teachers and office staff with photocopying, scanning, filing, etc. as needed.
- Maintain accurate, complete and confidential records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations.
- Assume responsibility for assigned duties such as car line, playground, lunchroom duty.
- Utilize technology related to job responsibilities.
- Reflect on performance and accept supervisor suggestions and feedback.
- Take primary responsibility for pursuing and evaluating own professional growth.
- Attend and participate in staff meetings and district in-service meetings.
- Participate in activities related to school functions and/or the education process that occur outside the regular workday.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Perform duties in a courteous and efficient manner that builds the confidence of staff, students and the public.
- Maintain regular attendance and punctuality for all scheduled work.
- Observe laws, district policies and professional standards for this position.
- Work effectively and collaboratively with diverse student, parent and community populations.
- Manage work responsibilities with strong organizational skills under pressure of deadlines and emergencies.
- Respect confidential information and privacy of students, staff and parents.
- Develop job skills necessary to adapt to changes in the position.
- Maintain personal appearance and hygiene appropriate to the position.
- Meet applicable district physical ability/health and safety guidelines.
- Direct movement of students to and from playground, lunchroom and classrooms safely and organized.
- Deliver instruction in a culturally responsive and respectful manner.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of state and federal education laws and of student and staff rights.
- Exhibit professionalism and effective human relations.
- Effectively manage and supervise students.
- Direct the work of other staff members.
- Standard First Aid certification, or ability to obtain certification within two months of hire.
Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with the School Board’s policy on evaluation of Sherwood Charter School staff.
Physical Requirements- Frequent or prolonged standing, walking and sitting.
- Possibly moderate to high noise level.
- Frequent and prolonged talking/listening in meetings.
