Special Education Teacher (1.0 FTE)
Reports to: Director of Student Services
Start Date: August 2026
Rainier School District is seeking a full‑time Special Education Teacher to provide specialized instruction and support to students with disabilities. The teacher will develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs), deliver direct instruction, collaborate with general teachers, and manage behavior plans.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Meet District, State, and Federal requirements; maintain proper documentation.
- Conduct specialized student assessments and evaluations; select appropriate measurement tools; communicate results and recommendations.
- Establish and facilitate meetings and discussions; organize effective meetings with all participants.
- Consult with others to develop plans that guide appropriate instruction and services; contribute creative solutions; assume case‑management responsibilities.
- Utilize support personnel; delegate duties; supervise interns; monitor effectiveness.
- Provide instructional support to teachers; identify resource needs; consult on resource use.
- Provide direct services to students, families, and colleagues; deliver developmentally appropriate face‑to‑face services; communicate skillfully.
- Engage in primary prevention activities; plan and deliver prevention activities; evaluate program outcomes.
- Develop and monitor student behavior plans.
- Create and coordinate school‑wide or community programs to support students and families.
- Participate in professional in‑service and ongoing training.
- Fulfills all other related duties as assigned.
- Demonstrate proficiency in planning and preparation of instruction.
- Create a respectful environment and promote a culture of learning.
- Apply proficient instructional strategies, including questioning, engagement techniques, and responsiveness.
- Maintain professional responsibilities: reflect on teaching, maintain records, communicate with families, participate in learning communities, grow professionally.
- Attend educational support meetings, including IEP and school board meetings.
- Report safety, sanitary and fire hazards to supervisor.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must possess the following:
- Valid Oregon Teaching License with appropriate endorsement; CPR/First Aid certification; valid driver’s license.
- Strong interpersonal skills; ability to work collaboratively, handle conflict, maintain confidentiality, and build team spirit.
- Leadership skills; ability to guide adults in a dynamic environment and assign tasks.
- Experience with adolescent students in a school setting; student teaching experience acceptable.
- Proficient communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
- Mathematical reasoning ability at grade‑level standards.
- Reasoning ability to apply common sense in written, verbal or diagram instructions.
- Computer skills: MS Word, Outlook, Excel, database software, internet, email, Synergy gradebook.
- Ability to communicate with students, teachers, parents, community members, vendors, and agencies.
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- Current Oregon License issued by the Teachers Standards & Practices Commission.
- Positive and current letters of recommendation from supervisors.
- Master’s Degree.
- Two years of special‑education teaching experience.
Regularly talking or hearing; walking, sitting, fine‑hand manipulation; standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching; assisting students; lifting up to 25 lbs, occasionally 50 lbs; vision requirements: close, distance, peripheral, depth perception.
Work EnvironmentOccasional overtime beyond standard 40‑hour week; exposure to wet or humid outdoor conditions; low to moderate noise.
Salary & BenefitsSalary: $47,088.00 – $87,024.00 (2024–2025 salary schedule; 2025–2026 schedule to be determined). All benefits and PERS are employer‑paid.
Job Requirements- At least 2 years of relevant experience preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree (preferred).
- Citizenship, residency or valid work visa required.
