Title: Certified Substitute

Location: Oakridge Junior/Senior High School – Oakridge Elementary School

Oakridge School District is seeking an energetic, positive, and resourceful full‑time certified substitute teacher to join Oakridge Junior/Senior High School and Oakridge Elementary School.

In the absence of the regular classroom teacher, implement the daily instructional plans and provide meaningful instruction to the assigned classroom. Maintain a learning‑favorable environment, establish effective rapport with students, and collaborate with the building administrator and other teachers to minimize transition problems.

• Report to the school office at the beginning of the school day to pick up required materials and return them at the end of the day following sign‑out procedures.
• Carry out the program of study prescribed in the lesson plans left by the classroom teacher.
• Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the students’ maturity and interests, ensuring fairness and respect.
• Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and objectives in the lesson plans.
• Employ instructional methods and materials most appropriate for meeting lesson objectives.
• Use positive verbal and non‑verbal skills that enhance learning.
• Maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
• Takes attendance in accordance with district procedures.
• State basic expectations for behavior at the beginning of class in accordance with school and district policies.
• Ensure students are never left unattended in the classroom.
• May perform duties usually required of an absent teacher such as lunchroom duty or hall monitoring.
• Know emergency evacuation routes for assigned classrooms.
• Take all necessary precautions to protect students, materials, equipment, and facilities.
• Know procedures for referring students with disciplinary problems.
• Know school procedures and regulations.
• Perform other related duties as directed by the principal.

• Perform duties courteously and efficiently, building confidence among staff, students, and the public.
• Maintain regular attendance and punctuality, meet deadlines, and follow the schedule.
• Observe laws, district policies, procedures, and professional standards for this position.
• Respect confidential information and the privacy of students, staff, and parents.
• Support students and staff in career‑related learning standards, encouraging independent work skills through exploration and community involvement.
• Maintain a professional personal appearance and hygiene.

• Must possess a valid Oregon State Teaching License or Oregon State Substitute Teacher License.
• Effective communication skills with students, parents, and staff.
• Work independently with minimal direction while functioning as a team member.
• Content knowledge in subject areas taught.
• Familiarity with state standards and curriculum frameworks.
• Experience with differentiated instruction.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of state and federal education laws and student and staff rights.
• Professionalism and effective human‑relations skills.
• Ability to manage and supervise students and their work.

• Frequent or prolonged standing, walking, and sitting.
• Possibly moderate to high noise levels.
• Frequent and prolonged talking/listening in conversations or meetings.
• Accurate perception of sound, near and far vision, depth perception.
• Handling and working with varied materials and objects.
• Occasional lifting or carrying of objects weighing 15–25 pounds.
• Possible exposure to bodily fluids from student injury or illness.
