Salary: $45,211 to $88,655 per year, plus a $3,000 stipend for SPED endorsement
Job SummaryThis position is responsible for providing special educational services to high and post‑high school students (9th grade to age 21) in a classroom setting, instructing students, maintaining discipline, and ensuring student academic achievement.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Follows and maintains knowledge of all District policies and procedures.
- Develops and maintains a classroom environment conducive to effective learning within district resources.
- Assesses students for special education qualification, writes IEPs and behavioral plans, reviews IEPs, and chairs IEP meetings.
- Serves as special‑education case manager for assigned student population.
- Designs, instructs, and implements appropriate special‑education instruction in accordance with students’ needs, district curriculum, state standards, and student interests and abilities.
- Works with district staff to implement IEPs, verifies compliance with state and federal laws, and checks on student progress.
- Conducts assessments of students’ work and maintains accurate data on attendance, grades, and IEP progress.
- Uses a variety of instructional techniques and media consistent with students’ needs and capabilities.
- Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for teacher aides.
- Assists in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
- Assesses student accomplishments and maintains required records.
- Assigns relevant homework and grades papers, assignments, and assessments promptly and accurately.
- Prepares report cards and progress reports.
- Facilitates conferences with students and parents.
- Completes required paperwork in specified time and manner.
- Assists students with tracking assignments and managing behaviors.
- Supervises students in hallways, library, bus areas, and special events, ensuring safety and security.
- Assists administration in implementing policies and rules for student conduct.
- Maintains open communication with students and parents regarding academic and behavioral progress.
- Reports serious accidents, illnesses, or incidents affecting students.
- Maintains health and safety precautions for students and protects equipment.
- Maintains confidential records securely.
- Maintains certifications and training hours as required.
- Cooperates with staff in planning instructional goals, IEP modifications, curriculum, and methods.
- Obtains special training as directed for student needs.
- Professionally represents the school and district in interactions with parents, community, staff, and students.
- Complies with applicable district, state, local, and federal laws, rules, and regulations.
- Attends work regularly and is punctual.
- Attends in-service trainings and staff meetings.
- Substitutes for other teachers as necessary.
- Participates in school and district level committees.
- Reports issues to authorities as necessary.
All school employees have some responsibility for supervising students and maintaining a safe environment.
Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree required; master’s preferred.
- Valid Oregon teaching license and Special Education endorsement.
- Background checks: fingerprints, criminal, Oregon Department of Education, and TSPC.
- Experience teaching special‑education students 6–12 preferred.
- Ability to work with diverse backgrounds, manage conflicts, and maintain confidentiality.
- Effective communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to develop and implement IEPs.
- Proficiency in computer use, e‑mail, spreadsheets, and word processing.
- Knowledge of child growth and development, behavior management, and district curriculum.
- Must hold CPR/First Aid Card.
