Long-Term Substitute Teacher High School Science
The Long-Term Substitute Teacher High School Science is responsible for delivering engaging, standards-based science instruction in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. This position requires maintaining continuity of instruction, managing classroom operations, assessing student progress, and fostering a safe and productive learning environment for students in grades 9-12.
Key Responsibilities- Instruction & Curriculum
- Deliver daily lesson plans aligned with state and district science standards (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Environmental Science).
- Implement existing curriculum and pacing guides to ensure continuity of instruction.
- Adapt lessons to meet diverse student learning needs, including IEP and 504 accommodations.
- Incorporate technology and hands-on laboratory experiences where appropriate.
- Uphold all laboratory safety procedures and ensure proper use of equipment and materials.
- Classroom Management
- Establish and maintain a positive, respectful, and inclusive classroom culture.
- Enforce school policies and student code of conduct consistently.
- Monitor student behavior and address issues promptly and professionally.
- Assessment & Communication
- Administer and grade assignments, quizzes, tests, and lab reports.
- Monitor and document student progress.
- Provide timely feedback to students.
- Communicate with parents/guardians as needed regarding student progress or concerns.
- Collaborate with department staff and administration to ensure instructional continuity.
- Professional Responsibilities
- Attend faculty meetings, department meetings, and professional development sessions as required.
- Maintain accurate attendance, grading, and other required records.
- Maintain confidentiality of student information in accordance with school and legal requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or department chair.
Required:
Bachelor's degree in Science or related field. Valid state teaching certification or substitute teaching credential (as required by state/district). Strong content knowledge in high school science subject areas. Ability to manage a classroom effectively.
Preferred:
Prior high school teaching experience. Experience with laboratory instruction and safety protocols. Familiarity with learning management systems (e.g., Google Classroom, Canvas, Schoology).
Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Organizational and time management skills. Flexibility and adaptability. Commitment to equity and student-centered learning. Ability to build positive relationships with students and staff.
Work EnvironmentClassroom and laboratory settings in a high school environment. May involve standing for extended periods and occasional lifting of laboratory materials.
Employment TermsTemporary, full-time position for the duration of the 2025-26 school year. Compensation according to district substitute pay scale.

School Principal and/or Science Department Chair.
