The Instructional Assistant supports classroom and special education teachers by performing instructional and clerical duties, providing student supervision, and facilitating individual and group learning activities.
Qualifications- High School diploma or equivalent.
- 72 quarter-hour accredited college credits or successful Work Keys Test in Math, Reading, and Business Writing.
- Valid driver’s license with evidence of insurability.
- Pass district background screening.
- Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance.
- Must meet Oregon State Restraint and CPI Guidelines for physical restraint of students.
- Knowledge of teaching methods, instructional materials, student management, and office procedures.
- Ability to supervise, instruct, and interact with students; manage classroom behavior; and operate basic office and audio‑visual equipment.
- Strong communication skills for explaining laws, policies, and educational content to students, parents, and staff.
- Basic math proficiency, reasoning ability, and professionalism in appearance and conduct.
- Implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and assist with instructional/behavioral programs.
- Communicate with teachers and parents regarding student progress.
- Maintain records and data on learning progress; handle charting, filing, and data collection.
- Provide additional practice for identified skill areas and guide independent study.
- Supervise academic and classroom testing; record grades and correct papers.
- Secure instructional materials, monitor student safety, enforce rules, and manage disciplinary actions.
- Collect and account for monies received and monitor non‑school personnel.
- Walk/stand up to 6‑8 hours; sit for 5‑8 hours; drive 1‑3 hours.
- Use hands for repetitive tasks such as grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation.
- Lift 20–100 pounds occasionally or frequently, depending on task, with appropriate ergonomics.
- Work effectively with diverse populations.
- Maintain punctual attendance and professionalism.
- Follow district policies and cooperate with supervisors.
- Protect confidential student and family information.
Requires immediate reporting of suspected child abuse to law enforcement or the Oregon Department of Human Services.
