Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions
  • Prepares for class and shows evidence of preparation when requested by the Principal or other school official.
  • Prepares to teach a course of study, assigns lessons, and corrects homework papers corresponding to the course of study.
  • Prepares for assigned classes using appropriate materials to meet the needs of the individual student.
  • Uses audiovisual/technological aids and other materials to supplement the presentation.
  • Organizes and assigns lessons.
  • Uses a variety of evaluation strategies and records results when appropriate.
  • Administers tests to evaluate progress, records results, and issues reports to inform parents of student progress.
  • Works as a cooperative Teacher to make modifications for students with learning differences as needed so the students can feel successful in the classroom.
  • Conducts and maintains a classroom environment conducive to learning.
  • Encourages students to maintain appropriate standards of classroom behavior.
  • Maintains order in the classroom and on school grounds/property.
  • Assists in enforcing school rules, Board policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Maintains accurate attendance, grade records, and permanent records as required by the school system and the State Department of Education.
  • Meets with parents or guardians to plan and develop objectives and goals to improve students' academic progress.
  • Assumes responsibility for all classroom activities and directs the duties of the instructional assistants that have been assigned to them.
  • Meets all professional learning (in-service), administrative, and State Department of Education requirements.
  • Prepares teaching outline for the academic program to coincide with the curriculum for each subject and grade level.
  • Presents subject matter in class using varied innovative teaching methods and materials.
  • Uses a variety of evaluation strategies and records results when appropriate.
  • Keeps attendance, grade records, and permanent records as required by the school system.
  • Works closely with parents to keep them informed of students' academic and social progress, work habits, and behavior.
  • Observe students to detect signs of ill health or emotional disturbance and refer students to appropriate personnel when problems arise.
  • Reports to the Guidance Counselor and/or Principal and/or Law Enforcement Agencies when a child's welfare appears to be at risk by abuse or neglect.

    • Posture:
      Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting.

      Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may lift and move textbooks and classroom equipment.
