JOB TITLE: High School Health/Social Studies Teacher

JOB TYPE: Licensed / Full-Time REVISED: June 18, 2026

REPORTS TO: Principal, Siletz Valley School PAY SCALE: SVS Licensed Salary Schedule

PURPOSE: The primary purpose of this position is to deliver engaging, culturally responsive, and standards-aligned instruction in Health and Social Sciences at the high school level (grades 9–12) and Middle school electives (grades 6-8). The teacher builds strong relationships with students and serves as a mentor, advocate, and community partner within the Siletz Valley School community.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following are examples of duties. However, any one position may not cover all duties listed; examples may not cover all duties an employee is expected to perform; and other duties may be assigned.

  • Plans and delivers high-quality, culturally responsive lessons in Health and Social Sciences for grades 9–12 and middle school elective options (grades 6-8).
  • Develops and implements curriculum aligned with Oregon state standards and the school’s charter mission.
  • Incorporates project-based learning, critical thinking, and real-world application into daily instruction.
  • Integrates Indigenous perspectives, Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians history, and local community context where appropriate.
  • Supports students in developing research, writing, and oral communication skills across the social sciences.
  • May teach courses such as Health, Contemporary Social Issues, Psychology, Sociology, Oregon History, and/or related electives depending on candidate expertise and scheduling needs.

  • Builds strong, trusting relationships with students, particularly those who are at risk, economically disadvantaged, or from historically underserved communities.
  • Differentiates instruction to meet the diverse academic, social-emotional, and cultural needs of all learners.
  • Participates in advisory, mentorship, or intervention programs as assigned.
  • Collaborates with school administration and support staff to address student wellness and academic success.
  • Assessment & Data
  • Uses formative and summative assessments to guide instruction and document student progress.
  • Maintains accurate records, grades, and communications in the school’s student information system.
  • Participates in school-wide data review and improvement planning processes.
  • Community & Professional Responsibilities
  • Engages proactively with parents, guardians, and tribal community members.
  • Collaborates with colleagues across grade levels and departments.
  • Participates in professional development, staff meetings, and school events.
  • Upholds the school’s mission, policies, and the terms of the charter agreement with Lincoln County School District.

GENERAL PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Performs duties in a courteous and efficient manner that builds the confidence of staff, students, and the public in Siletz Valley School.
  • Observes laws, district policies and procedures, and professional standards for the position.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with school personnel, parents, students, and the public; works collaboratively as a team member.
  • Carries out work responsibilities effectively under pressure of deadlines, difficult situations, interruptions, and new or emergency conditions.
