The educational assistant shall assist the teacher or building administrator in a supportive capacity. The role of the educational assistant is adaptable to many support tasks within the educational environment.

The educational assistant must have:

• Have a high school diploma or the equivalent;
• Be at least 18 years of age; and
• Have standards of moral character as required of teachers (OAR ).

Educational assistants must have:

• Completed two years of study at an institution of higher education; or obtained an Associate's (or higher) degree; or met a rigorous standard of quality and demonstrate through a formal state, or local academic assessment or para-educator certificate program, knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing:
  Reading, writing, and mathematics; or reading readiness, writing readiness, and mathematics readiness, as appropriate (Assessment is offered by District).

Preferred qualifications:

• 1-2 years experience working as an educational assistant in a k-12 school district.
• Some college coursework.
• Experience working with students with behavior opportunities

• Personal days, Sick days
• JCSD 509-J pays the employee's share (6%) of the Public Employees Retirement System Contribution
