Santiam Junior/Senior High School is seeking a dedicated and innovative educator to serve as our Secondary Science Teacher – Biology & Integrated Science
. The successful candidate will primarily teach Biology while helping students develop a deep understanding of life science through engaging, inquiry-based instruction, laboratory investigations, and authentic scientific experiences. Additional science assignments may be included based on student enrollment and district needs.

Santiam operates on a 4-day school week and teacher contracts are for 174 workdays.
Reports to: Building Principal
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential duties of this position include the following. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other related duties may be assigned.
- Follows and maintains knowledge of all District policies and procedures.
- Develops and maintains a classroom environment conducive to effective learning.
- Plans a program of study that meets the Oregon required learning standards and the individual needs, interests and abilities of students.
- Plans and supervises purposeful and engaging lessons and experiences, including science labs.
- Assists in the selection of books, equipment and other instructional materials
- Match activities and materials to individual and group skills and needs.
- Uses a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
- Uses a grading system that is consistent, fair, and supportable.
- Assesses and evaluates students’ abilities and progress.
- Prepares report cards and progress reports.
- Informs parents of student progress concerning academic achievement and behavior through phone calls, email, and occasional in person meetings throughout the school year.
- Facilitates conferences with students and parents.
- Completes required paperwork in specified time and manner.
- Conducts appropriate assessments of students’ work and maintains accurate and regular data on students in areas of attendance, grades and IEP progress, if applicable.
- Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities as assigned.
- Assists administration in implementing policies and rules governing student life and conduct.
- Informs parents of student progress concerning academic achievement and behavior through conferences, written messages, telephone calls and/or email.
- Promptly reports any serious accident or illness affecting students in the teacher’s charge or any incident, which might affect the school, teachers or students therein.
