Position Profile:

The Kindergarten Long-Term Substitute Teacher position exists to work closely with our students to educate them in the areas of curriculum for the grade level, as well as foster growth in their personal character and their knowledge of, and relationship with Jesus Christ. This position is temporary to complete the  academic school year and intended to fill in while the teacher is on extended leave.

The person in the position holds the role and responsibility of being a ministry leader in addition to a classroom teacher.

Experience

Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor’s degree, ideally in education
  • Experience with Google Classroom, Sites, Forms, Sheets, Meet etc. is preferred
  • Experience with Microsoft is preferred
  • Teaching or substitute teaching experience preferred
Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Be present at the school daily, 7:30am – 3:30pm, according to the school calendar days of operation
  • Follow the given lesson plans (long-term subs may write their own plans)
  • Prep, teach, and assess all subject areas required for the grade level
  • Understand and be able to articulate curriculum – including context, organization, and development
  • Strive to maintain the expectations of the class but also be able to bring your touch to foster connections with students and keep them engaged in learning
  • Long-term subs need to stay in close communication with partner teacher
  • Follow safety procedures and expectations, and understand responsibilities of the teacher
  • Build relationships with students, fostering a safe and welcoming learning environment and one that supports school-wide behavior expectations with an emphasis on biblical principles
  • Observe and evaluate students’ academic performance, behavior, and social development
  • Communicate positively with students, parents and staff in a timely manner
  • Collaborate closely with other teachers and staff with an attitude of teamwork
  • Develop a classroom management system or plan, appropriate for the age of students and dynamics of the class. Utilize positive classroom management while creating a structured learning environment where students feel valued, encouraged, and safe to learn and grow
  • Monitor academic progress of students, support, and communicate needs as they arise
  • Prepare for and lead parent conferences twice a year
  • Plan class field trips to foster learning and bonding
  • Keep track of state standards
  • Stay current with educational trends and work with the Resource Room Director to identify and accommodate struggling students
  • Document student behaviors and/or academic concerns
  • Attend morning devotions and take turns reading the Bible and leading staff in prayer
  • Attend two evening programs during the school year – Christmas and the Ram Gala
  • Train teacher assistants (paid and volunteer) in how to support the classroom teacher and positively lead the class of students
  • Use available technology to deliver instruction and communication effectively and appropriately
  • Use school resources responsibly, with fiscal and ethical considerations, following guidelines and expectations
