IMPORTANT: A valid Oregon teaching license with an endorsement in Special Education is required to be eligible for this position. Please do not apply if you do not meet this requirement. This is a temporary position for the remainder of the 2026-27 school year. Annual salary will be prorated to the number of contract days worked and 0.5 FTE.

General Description

The Special Education Teacher performs under the supervision of a principal or designated supervisor and is responsible for the instruction, guidance, and supervision of special education students. The teacher functions in accordance with established district policies, state and federal requirements, and performance goals. Strong classroom management skills and family and community involvement are expected. All teachers are responsible for student achievement, supervision, guidance, development, and safety, working within a team concept to design and deliver Specially Designed Instruction (SDI) listed on each student's Individualized Education Program (IEP).

Essential

Functions
  • Coordinate with the Special Education team, building administrator, and Student Services Director in the implementation of students' IEPs.
  • Assist the team in establishing educational plans and daily schedules aligned with students' academic and educational needs.
  • Collaborate with the school psychologist and program staff to develop annual academic and behavior goals based on current levels of performance and emotional/behavioral functioning.
  • Complete required IDEA paperwork within state and federal timelines and fulfill all case management duties for assigned students.
  • Implement curriculum to meet core content area standards and deliver specially designed instruction (SDI) as outlined in each IEP.
  • Work with specialists, support staff, and community providers to ensure each student receives the full range of required services.
  • Collaborate on Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and implement/adjust Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) with program staff and families.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of student progress, progress notes, incident reports, attendance, and required documentation.
  • Communicate regularly and collaboratively with families through phone calls, emails, or communication logs.
  • Supervise Special Education instructional assistants as assigned.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative professional relationships with colleagues, participate in faculty meetings/committees, and engage in continuous professional development.
  • Remain observant of student safety and well-being, serving as a positive role model and adhering to district policies and mandated reporting requirements.
Licensure & Certification
  • Hold a valid Oregon teaching license and endorsement in Special Education. ( R required).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bilingual fluency in Spanish.
  • Experience working with students across a wide range of special education disabilities.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Thorough knowledge of research-based educational strategies, evidence-based practices, and models for improving instructional outcomes for special education students.
  • Knowledge of Oregon academic content standards and students with a wide range of disabilities.
  • Ability to demonstrate a strong theoretical background in working with linguistically and culturally diverse populations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, and listen effectively with students, staff, and families.
  • Ability to establish strong classroom management, foster family involvement, and maintain high educational standards.

Physical Requirements

Work is performed primarily in classroom environments, special education settings, and common school areas. Requires strong classroom management skills, ability to adapt instruction to diverse needs, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and families.
