Position Summary
Avangrid Power is seeking to fill a Wind Turbine Technician opening in Arlington, OR. The base salary is DOE with a range of $28.50 to $41.25 hourly for Technician I to Technician III. The company will determine the technician level based on experience and education. A sign‑on bonus of $5,000 is available.
Key Responsibilities- Operate and maintain wind turbine equipment and associated infrastructure including substation, collection, and transmission systems.
- Read schematics and troubleshoot complex mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic problems with variable pitch and variable speed control systems.
- Perform mechanical and electrical component repair or replacement, following manufacturer requirements.
- Comply with project environmental health and safety programs and perform preventive maintenance per OEM manuals.
- Conduct data collection and prepare reports to meet wind plant reporting requirements.
- Carry out retrofits, design modifications, and QA/QC functions, compiling supporting documents.
- If needed, support construction during mechanical and commissioning walk‑downs.
- Continuously improve knowledge of turbine or solar equipment and safety regulations.
- Work overtime, holidays, weekends, and on short notice, including an on‑call schedule.
- Travel to other sites on short notice; approximately 10‑15% travel may be required.
- Operate in low, medium, and high voltage environments and in extremely adverse weather conditions.
- One year of college or technical school, 12 months of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; high school diploma or GED.
- Familiarity with maintenance and electronic testing equipment such as voltage testers, amp clamps, oscilloscopes, megohm meters, infrared testers, hydraulic torque equipment, alignment tools, and hand and power tools.
- Advanced computer skills using word processing, spreadsheets, email, facility control systems, management and reporting systems, and computerized diagnostic and troubleshooting tools.
- Ability to climb towers up to 100 m daily, lift items up to 60 lb (occasionally 100 lb), and work with electrical wires of various color codes.
- Capable of interpreting and following written, oral, diagrammatic, or scheduled instructions.
- Strong practical problem‑solving and teamwork, initiative, and positive attitude.
- Knowledge of heavy equipment maintenance and basic crane and rigging requirements.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Weight must not exceed 285 lb (excluding equipment/gear worn when performing job related tasks).
- Experience in power plant operations and maintenance.
- Experience in wind and solar plant construction, operation, and maintenance, including wind turbine and solar power converter/inverter work.
- Experience with high‑voltage switching.
- Background in fields requiring strong electrical and mechanical aptitude.
- Qualified candidates living in or near the greater local area.
