Georgia-Pacific Toledo is seeking an Assistant Reliability Manager to help lead and execute the mill's reliability strategy in support of safe, reliable, and cost-effective operations. This role will work closely with the Reliability Manager and mill leadership to improve equipment reliability, reduce unplanned downtime, strengthen asset strategies, and create long-term value through Koch's Principle Based Management® framework.

The successful candidate will provide leadership for reliability engineers, condition monitoring resources, and cross-functional improvement efforts while partnering with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and Planning to drive sustainable reliability results. This role requires a principled, contribution-motivated leader who demonstrates integrity, humility, stewardship, knowledge sharing, transformation, and principled entrepreneurship while helping others apply their talents where they can create the most value.

Our Team

Georgia-Pacific Toledo produces brown paper used to manufacture cardboard and is a recycling leader in the Pacific Northwest. The mill operates in a fast-paced, continuous manufacturing environment producing linerboard and corrugated medium.

Located near the Oregon Coast, Toledo offers access to fishing, hiking, mountain biking, kayaking, boating, and many other outdoor activities.

What You Will Do
  • Support and help execute the site reliability strategy, asset management initiatives, and long-term reliability improvement plans.
  • Provide technical leadership, coaching, and development for reliability engineers, vibration analysts, lubrication technicians, and other reliability resources.
  • Partner with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and Planning to improve equipment reliability and reduce production losses.
  • Assist in the development and optimization of preventive, predictive, and condition-based maintenance strategies.
  • Lead and facilitate equipment failure investigations, root cause analyses, and defect elimination efforts.
  • Monitor equipment health data and use reliability analytics to identify bad actors, evaluate risk, and prioritize improvement opportunities.
  • Support vibration analysis, lubrication excellence, oil analysis, thermography, ultrasound, and other predictive maintenance technologies.
  • Develop and publish reliability performance indicators, asset health metrics, and program effectiveness reports.
  • Collaborate with maintenance teams to ensure reliability findings are converted into high-quality corrective work.
  • Provide reliability input for capital projects, major equipment repairs, outage planning, and design-for-reliability initiatives.
  • Support equipment criticality assessments, asset strategies, and long-range replacement planning.
  • Promote safe work practices by identifying risks, applying critical controls, and ensuring compliance with mill safety and environmental expectations.
  • Apply Koch's Principle Based Management® framework by using sound economic thinking, respectful challenge, knowledge sharing, and long-term value creation to improve reliability performance.
  • Coach team members to develop capabilities, close performance gaps, and contribute according to their comparative advantages while building mutually beneficial partnerships across the mill.
  • Work a flexible schedule, including occasional outage and weekend support as needed to support mill performance.
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent technical experience.
  • Experience in manufacturing, industrial, pulp and paper, chemical, power generation, or other heavy industry environments.
  • Experience with reliability engineering, maintenance, predictive maintenance, asset management, or equipment troubleshooting.
  • Experience leading projects, supervising teams, coaching employees, or influencing cross-functional teams.
  • Knowledge of preventive maintenance, precision maintenance, root cause analysis, reliability-centered maintenance, and asset strategy development.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office applications.
What Will Put You Ahead
  • Experience in the pulp and paper industry.
  • Experience leading reliability or maintenance teams in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with vibration analysis, lubrication, thermography, ultrasound, motor testing, or oil analysis programs.
  • Certification such as CMRP, Category II Vibration Analyst, MLA, MLT, or equivalent reliability certification.
  • Experience facilitating root cause analysis and defect elimination programs.
  • Experience developing reliability KPIs, asset strategies, and reliability improvement plans.
  • Experience with SAP, CMMS systems, OSIsoft PI, reliability databases, or predictive maintenance software.
  • Experience supporting capital projects and reliability improvements for rotating equipment such as pumps, motors, gearboxes, fans, compressors, and conveyors.
