**** About The Position:
** The Oregon Department of Forestry’s Protection from Fire Program provides a complete and coordinated statewide forest fire protection system, ensuring that the benefits of the system exceed the cost. The Tillamook District Protection Unit oversees fire protection, detection, and suppression efforts across approximately 522,000 acres of private, BLM, state, and municipal lands, and maintains strong mutual-aid partnerships with local, county, and federal agencies.
As the
** Fire Supervisor**, you will play a key leadership role in supporting this mission. You will supervise and coordinate the unit’s field operations to accomplish fire prevention, pre‐suppression, and suppression objectives. In this role, you will lead staff engaged in daily field work, ensure readiness and maintenance of equipment and facilities, and foster effective cooperation with partner agencies. This is an opportunity to make a significant impact on Oregon’s fire protection efforts by guiding frontline staff, strengthening interagency relationships, and ensuring the district is prepared to respond effectively to wildfire events.

* Minimum Qualifications:
** Five years of wildland fire suppression or emergency dispatching which
** includes
* * one year of leading/supervising the work of others
** OR
* * Bachelor's degree in forestry or closely related natural resources field and two years of wildland fire suppression or emergency dispatching which
** includes
* * one year of leading/supervising the work of others.
** Note**:
May be required to successfully take and pass the physical fitness Work Capacity Test at the moderate level.

** Driver’s License Check - This position requires the operation of a state vehicle for the purpose of conducting official State business. If your license is from outside Oregon, you must submit at least a three-year court/DMV printout. If you have an Oregon driver’s license, a record check will be conducted on the top candidate to ensure a valid license and acceptable driving record.

*** Strong leadership skills with the ability to direct personnel during high‐risk, high‐stress wildfire incidents.
* Advanced knowledge of wildfire behavior, suppression strategies, and the National Fire Danger Rating System.
* Skilled in incident command operations, including size‐up, resource ordering, and operational decision‐making.
* Effective communication skills for radio, written reporting, briefings, and coordination with cooperators and the public.
* Ability to analyze complex situations, set tactical objectives, and adjust strategies in dynamic fire environments.
* Proficiency in map reading, GPS navigation, and using technology for fire detection and situational awareness.
* Strong administrative and organizational skills, including budgeting, procurement, and contract management.
* Experience conducting fire investigations, evidence preservation, and documentation.
* Ability to develop, deliver, and document training for staff, cooperators, and emergency personnel.
* Skilled in building cooperative partnerships with landowners, local governments, agencies, and community groups.
