This position is responsible for enforcing federal, state and local traffic, criminal and civil laws. Duties are varied and performed within established guidelines requiring sound judgment to determine appropriate procedure. EOE, Veterans Preference. Supervision Received This position is under the general supervision of the Undersheriff and Sergeants. Supervision Exercised Supervision of other employees is not a responsibility of positions in this classification.
Examples of principal duties include patrolling the North district in a patrol car to observe for criminal activity, investigating accidents and crimes, enforcing laws, serving warrants, and responding to emergency calls. The position also involves maintaining weapons and equipment, attending training sessions, and dealing effectively with the public and other employees.
Minimum qualifications include passing the Police Officer Selection test with a minimum score of 70 points, being a U.S. citizen, a high school diploma or GED, and experience or training demonstrating the ability to perform the duties of the position. Special qualifications require a clean driving record, obtaining DPSST certification within one year of employment, and residing in Malheur County within six months of being hired.
