This position is responsible for enforcing federal, state and local traffic, criminal and civil laws. Duties are varied and performed within established guidelines requiring sound judgment to determine appropriate procedure. EOE, Veterans Preference. Supervision Received This position is under the general supervision of the Undersheriff and Sergeants. Supervision Exercised Supervision of other employees is not a responsibility of positions in this classification.
Examples of principal duties include patrolling the North district in a patrol car, investigating accidents and crimes, enforcing laws, serving warrants, responding to emergency calls, maintaining weapons and equipment, and attending training sessions.
Minimum qualifications include passing the Police Officer Selection test with a minimum score of 70 points, being a U.S. citizen, minimum age 21, high school diploma or GED, and experience or training which would demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of the position. Special qualifications include a clean driving record, possession of/or ability to obtain DPSST certification within one year of employment, and felony convictions may be disqualifying.
Preferred knowledge and skills include experience with communication and serving the public, law enforcement terminology and technology, knowledge of the methods used in the care and custody of prisoners, and experience with writing detailed reports.
