EMT Paramedic

Location: 600 Ranch Rd, Reedsport, OR

On-Call: Yes (must be within 10 minutes of hospital)

Job Summary

Renders emergency care in the hospital and pre-hospital setting, as is customarily performed by an EMT certified by the Oregon State Health Division, in a proficient, competent, and qualified manner to any person requiring these services.

Essential Duties
  • Is able to perform all job duties as listed in OAR  EMT Scope of Practice.
  • Assists Paramedic on all calls and accepts patient care after Paramedic evaluation, when appropriate for an EMT.
  • Will be familiar with and maintain a working knowledge of LUH-EMS Standing Orders and Standard Operating Guidelines.
  • When on call, be within 10 minutes of the hospital ready to respond when needed.
  • Accurately and completely documents all call responses, billing forms, patient care forms, incident reports, and all other paperwork required to complete the job assignment.
  • Maintains equipment, vehicles, and quarters in a clean and safe working condition.
  • Restocks ambulance after every call except when acting as primary technician.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by EMS Manager.
  • Performs emergency tasks under the direct visual supervision of a physician and then only under order from that physician.
  • Education and License
    • High School Diploma or equivalent.
    • Valid Oregon Driver’s license, with an insurable driving record.
    • Current Oregon State Health Division EMT certification.
    Certifications
    • Hazmat Awareness Training
    • Healthcare Provider, BLS CPR

    Work Environment

    The work environment varies working indoors and outdoors. Emergency responses happen day and night and in varying weather conditions. Outdoor environments include sand dunes, forests, bodies of water, highways, streets, etc. Indoor environments include hospitals, clinics, public buildings and private houses.

    EMS responders are exposed to potentially dangerous and volatile rescue and medical situations, inclement weather, frequent heavy lifting, and exposure to body fluids, disease, illness, and hazardous materials.

    Physical Demands

    The employee must be able to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Good physical strength and stamina are needed to lift and transport patients safely. Must have stamina to repeatedly walk, bend, lift, and kneel in uncomfortable positions in the field. Must be able to lift up to 100 lbs and push and pull a minimum of 50 lbs.
