  • The Respiratory Therapist is responsible for identifying patient needs and priorities for care through assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation. Coordinates care between other professional disciplines as needed for patients with deficiencies and abnormalities associated with the cardiopulmonary system.
  • The Respiratory Therapists is responsible for the care of patients with deficiencies and abnormalities of the cardiopulmonary system. The scope of practice crosses all patient, client and resident populations and care sites including, but not limited to various in‑patient and outpatient settings.
Requirements

Education and Experience-

Education:

  • Graduation from an AMA accredited associate degree program in respiratory therapy or higher.

Duties and Responsibilities-

  • Experience: One-year experience as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in all areas of adult care.
  • Licenses/Certifications: Must hold a current Oregon State Respiratory Care Practitioners License, must have the minimal NBRC credentialing, have current BLS, ACLS certifications, and PALS or within 90 days of hire, and NRP preferred.
  • Duties and Responsibilities: The practice of a respiratory therapist is determined by Oregon Health Authority, Health Licensing Office, Respiratory Therapy and Polysomnography Technologist Licensing Board. The practice at Coquille Valley Hospital will include:
    • Patients across the age spectrum – neonatal through geriatric.
    • Direct and indirect patient observation and monitoring of signs, symptoms, reactions, general behavior and general physical response to respiratory care and diagnostic interventions.
    • Implementation of respiratory therapy procedures, medical technology, and diagnostic procedures necessary for disease prevention, treatment management, and pulmonary rehabilitation.
    • Utilization of protocols, guidelines, pathways, and policies driven by evidence‑based medicine, expert opinion, and standards of practice.
    • Participation in Quality interventions and technology to determine their ability to improve patient outcomes.
    • Provision of patient and family education activities to promote knowledge and understanding of the disease process, medical therapy and resources available to assist in the care of the patient.
    • Facilitation of health care student learning.
    • Manage and operate equipment safely and correctly.
    • Inspect and test respiratory therapy equipment to ensure that it is functioning safely and efficiently.

Qualifications: Employee must have the skills necessary to perform all functions as a respiratory therapist. The employee must be able to work independently and as a team member of the interdisciplinary team. Employee must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Employee must have basic computer knowledge, and be able to navigate EMR system effectively.

    • Overnight Oximetry
    • Blood gas and other pertinent laboratory analysis
    • Cardiac Stress Testing
  • Patient assessment
    • Physical examination
  • Application of therapeutics to respiratory care
    • Medical gas therapy
    • Humidity therapy
    • Aerosol therapy
    • Artificial airway insertion, management, and care
    • Airway clearance
    • Invasive and non‑invasive mechanical ventilation
  • Assessment of therapies
  • Disease management of acute and chronic diseases
  • Collaborative support of hemodynamics
  • Discharge planning and case management
  • Provision of emergency, acute, critical and post‑acute care, including
    • Patient and environmental assessment
    • Therapeutic interventions
    • Physical Demands: The employee must be able to demonstrate appropriate vision, hearing, and repetitive motion while performing the job duties of a respiratory therapist without compromising patient care. The employee must be able to lift 35 lbs. in an appropriate manner, without the possibility of injury to the employee or patients.
