Overview

Certified Volunteer Ombudsmen advocate for the rights and dignity of residents who are elderly and disabled living in long-term care facilities. Ombudsmen are the voice of the consumer and work to make the system responsive to individual needs and wishes. Volunteers advocate for residents in nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and adult foster homes, aiming to address concerns such as call lights, meals, and medications.

• Visit residents, listen to their concerns, and advocate for their rights.
• Investigate and resolve problems and complaints until resident concerns are resolved.
• Collaborate with facilities to ensure residents receive appropriate care and are treated with dignity.
• Provide support to residents and help ensure issues are heard and addressed in a timely manner.

• Compassionate heart, listening ear, and a desire to make a difference.
• No special degree required.
• Ability to work with diverse residents and facility staff in a professional manner.
