Ultrasound Tech - Ultrasound Tech

As an Ultrasound Tech, you perform diagnostic ultrasound examinations across body systems to support clinical decisions.

You operate ultrasound equipment, optimize image quality, and document results in the patient record within hospital or outpatient imaging settings.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare patients, verify orders, and obtain consent for ultrasound exams.
  • Conduct a range of ultrasound studies (e.g., abdominal, obstetric, gynecologic, vascular) as assigned.
  • Acquire and optimize images, adjust machine settings, and ensure study adequacy for interpretation.
  • Collaborate with radiologists and clinicians to finalize studies and communicate imaging considerations.
  • Document findings and attach appropriate annotations in the EMR and PACS.
  • Maintain equipment, perform routine QC, and uphold infection control standards.
  • Educate patients about ultrasound procedures and post-procedure expectations.
Qualifications

Education:

Graduate of an accredited diagnostic medical sonography program or equivalent certificate/degree.

Licensure:

ARDMS certification (RDMS) or equivalent; state licensure as required by jurisdiction.

Certifications:

  • ARDMS Certification in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (RDMS)
  • BLS certification

Experience or Skills:

Proficiency in abdominal, obstetric, gynecologic, and vascular imaging; strong patient communication; proficient with PACS/EMR.

Experience
  • Experience performing diverse ultrasound exams in clinical settings.
  • Experience with image optimization and documentation in EMR and PACS.
  • Experience collaborating with radiologists and care teams.
Preferred
  • BS in Diagnostic Medical Sonography or related field
  • Experience with 3D/4D ultrasound or specialized ultrasound modalities
Work Environment

Work in hospital imaging departments or outpatient clinics with a focus on accurate image acquisition and timely reporting.

Typically fast-paced with a team-based approach; flexible scheduling and heavy documentation in the EMR and PACS systems.
