The Medical Assistant is responsible for daily patient flow for each physician they work with, using triage skills to gather information, assisting physicians with phone requests, completing physician‑requested ancillary procedures, maintaining equipment inventory, supporting Lean principles, ensuring a safe environment, upholding high professional standards, delivering patient care, and performing additional duties as required.

• Escort patients to exam rooms and prepare them for physician assessment.
• Record and maintain patient medical data in the chart.
• Assist physicians with answering phone requests from patients and other medical professionals.
• Perform physician‑requested ancillary and/or surgical patient procedures (excluding IV medication administration).
• Maintain equipment, instruments, and supply inventory levels.
• Support the organization’s vision, mission, and values in all respects.
• Support Lean principles of continuous improvement and act as a champion of change.
• Provide and maintain a safe environment for caregivers, patients, and guests.
• Conduct all activities with the highest standards of professionalism and confidentiality.
• Comply with all applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
• Deliver customer service and patient care in a manner that promotes goodwill, timeliness, efficiency, and accuracy.
• Perform additional duties of similar complexity within the organization as required or assigned.

• Education
  • Required:
    
    High school diploma or GED.
  • Preferred:
    Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
• Certification and Licensure
  • Required:
    
    Current MA certification (AMT, NCCT, AAMA, NAHP, NHA, or Oregon EMT/LPN/RN/Athletic Trainer) and AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider certification.
  • Preferred:
    Current AAMA certification.
• Experience
  • Required:
    
    Basic knowledge of ICD‑10, CPT/HCPCS coding conventions and procedures; working knowledge of medical practice management information systems; basic physician office documentation standards; ability to maintain confidentiality and meet HIPAA requirements.
  • Candidates with NHA certification obtained through work experience must have at least one year of experience in medical assisting.
  • Preferred:
    Two or more years of medical assisting experience.
• Personal Protective Equipment
  • Must be able to wear appropriate PPE required to perform the job safely.

    Standing and walking, keyboard operation, clear audible speaking voice, hearing normal speech level.

    Sitting; lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling 1–25 pounds.
  • Occasionally (25%):
    Bending, stooping/kneeling/crouching, climbing ladder or step‑stool, reaching overhead, lifting 25–50 pounds, grasping/squeezing, hearing whispered speech level.

    Wet or slippery area, chemical solution exposure.

    Climbing ladder or step‑stool, operating a motor vehicle.
