Purpose/Description

Job Description:

Interacts with patients, families, and visitors appropriately and professionally. Registers outpatients, inpatient, and Emergency Department patients. Collects patient demographic and insurance information accurately and enters into the computer. Accurately completes all registration forms and distributes information to ancillary departments.

Education and Experience Education
  • High School diploma or equivalent
Experience
  • One year of experience where the primary function was patient admissions or patient registration in a hospital or healthcare facility.
Duties And Responsibilities
  • Interacts with and greets patients, families, and visitors in an appropriate and professional manner.
  • Registers all patient types and collects demographics and insurance information to ensure accurate patient record and correct billing information.
  • Distributes forms and consents to appropriate departments.
  • Obtains and interprets insurance benefits and prior authorization.
  • Applies benefit information to determine patient copays / patient responsibility.
  • Answers telephone in courteous and professional manner.
  • Processes daily bank deposits, maintains cash drawer, accepts patient payments, and writes up receipts.
  • Understands use and disclosure of protected health information, or PHI.
  • Other duties as assigned.
