Provides peer support services as part of a multi-disciplinary team of the Grand Ronde Health and Wellness Center Behavioral Health Program services program. Service provision will focus on working with clients to enhance their recovery. Ensures the provision of health care services takes place in a professional, non-bias environment and is accomplished in an efficient and respectful manner. Contributes to accomplishment of the Tribe’s holistic health and wellness objectives for the client.

Essential Functions:
  • Openly identify as a person who has lived the experience of receiving behavioral health services.
  • Acts as a positive role model individual being served, showing a recovery and healthful lifestyle orientation. Shares own recovery story with individuals being served when appropriate.
  • Acts as advocate for individuals being served, both within the organization and also with other entities.
  • Supportive of a Trauma Informed Care perspective. Understand the effects of trauma, coping, and other aspects of the lives of those served.
  • Provides and promotes a strengths-based, wellness-informed, client centered approach to assisting individuals being served in achieving person-driven goals.
  • Participates in outreach efforts to engage clients, including appointments, resource referrals, and work in the community.
  • Assists with screenings, intakes, treatment plans, discharges, and follow-up calls.
  • Collects, prepares, and maintains informational materials regarding meth and opioids.
  • Transports clients to various appointments and other community resources.
  • Assists with informing best practices within the clinic to identify ways to continue lowering barriers to treatment and improving client services.
  • Provides education and awareness information regarding meth, opioids, and other drugs and alcohol at community events and working with and at local public schools.
  • Provides child care services while clients are receiving Behavioral Health services.
  • Networks with Tribal police, health, housing, and education programs and with outside agencies and organizations to help members’ access services and to help enhance or improve services.
  • Attends interdepartmental and interagency meetings.
  • Assists Tribal members with court processes and obligations.
  • Assists with drafting reports.
  • Performs other grant project related activities as assigned by supervisor.
Education, Experience, and Licenses
  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Certified Recovery Mentor or Peer Support Specialist by the State of Oregon or ability to obtain certification within six (6) months of hire.

One of the following required in order to meet the definition of Peer as defined by the State of Oregon Administrative Rule:

  • o Self-identified person currently or formerly receiving mental health services
  • o Self-identified person in recovery from a substance abuse disorder, who meet the abstinence requirements for recovering staff in alcohol and other drug treatment programs
  • o Family member of an individual who is a current or former recipient of addictions or mental health services
  • Experience with issues involving addiction required.
  • If a recovering chemically dependent person must be in a program of recovery and able to provide documentation of sobriety for a minimum of two (2) years.
  • OR equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Driving Requirements

Must maintain a valid Oregon driver’s license or obtain one upon hire, qualify for the Tribe’s vehicle insurance, and provide proof of personal vehicle insurance.

  • Continually requires the ability to express or receive detailed information or important instructions through oral communication.
  • Continually requires working with fingers rather than the whole hand or arm. Requires repetitive movement of wrists, hands and/or fingers. Often requires walking or moving about to accomplish tasks.
