ABOUTTHE ROLE
The Universal Banker serves as a frontline representative of the bank. This position assists customers with routine teller transactions and supports retail deposit account relationships for both consumer and business customers, including opening, maintaining, troubleshooting, and closing accounts. The Universal Banker must be comfortable transitioning between teller and customer service duties throughout the day based on office needs and customer traffic.
TellerResponsibilities
- Process a variety of customer transactions accurately and efficiently, including deposits, withdrawals, loan payments, transfers, cashier’s checks, and cash advances
- Balance and maintain an individual cash drawer in accordance with bank policies and procedures.
- Identify and resolve balancing discrepancies promptly and accurately
- Maintain proper cash levels and adhere to all cash handling and security procedures
- Provide prompt, professional, and courteous service to customers during daily transactions
- Detect and prevent potential fraud and suspicious activity by following bank procedures and regulatory requirements
- Open, maintain, service, and close retail deposit accounts for consumer and business customers
- Assist customers with account maintenance requests, debit card issues, online banking troubleshooting, stop payments, wire requests, and other account‑related concerns
- Explain bank products and services and identify opportunities to meet customer financial needs
- Gather and verify required documentation to ensure compliance with bank policies and regulatory requirements
- Assist customers with digital banking services, including online banking enrollment and mobile banking support
- Resolve customer issues professionally and escalate concerns when appropriate
- Identify opportunities to deepen customer relationships by referring customers to appropriate bank partners and departments
- Educate customers on available bank products and services and facilitate introductions to specialized banking professionals in commercial lending, mortgage lending, consumer lending, and wealth management.
This is an on‑site position working 40 hours per week, depending on coverage needs. Ability to work a Saturday morning rotation is required.
Work is done in a typical office environment with moderate noise levels and temperatures. Requires the ability to operate a multi‑line telephone using a headset, as well as all types of typical electronic office equipment such as computers, copiers, fax machines and scanners. Primarily a sedentary position, but requires occasional standing, walking, lifting, carrying, bending, kneeling, stretching, stooping and manual dexterity using hands and fingers (for computer keyboard operation).
Requires ability for extensive reading and viewing of paper documents and computer screens.
- 18 years of age or older
- Two or more years of appropriate experience in customer service, preferably in retail banking
- Skilled in the use of computer data entry and retrieval systems, as well as Microsoft Office applications.
- Effective verbal and listening skills required.
- Friendly, patient, courteous and professional demeanor when speaking with a customer or the public is essential.
- Able to recognize issues of significance and prioritize work.
