Department summary:

St. Charles Health System Diagnostic Imaging Departments perform X-Ray, Ultrasound, CT, MRI, Nuclear Medicine, and PET/CT exams in a variety of locations. We work with Cascade Medical Imaging to meet imaging needs of the community and support the ED, OR, Inpatient Floors, and Family Birthing Center.

Position Overview: The General Radiologic and Procedure Technologist performs all Radiographic studies and related procedures at a technical level not requiring direct supervision, in accordance with department and hospital guidelines. This position operates imaging devices in the operating room (portable and fixed fluoroscopy) and portable radiography. This role does not directly manage other caregivers.

  • Performs General Radiology examinations per department policies and protocols.
  • Performs C-arm cases in the operating room (e.g., Orthopedic/Neuro Spine surgeries, Orthopedic trauma, Pediatric Orthopedics, Percutaneous nephrolithotomy, retrograde pyelogram, ureteral stent placements).
  • Performs C-arm cases in the Medical Diagnostic Unit (e.g., ERCP, Bronchoscopy, Esophageal dilation, Colonic stent placements).
  • As needed, performs Radiology Procedures with Interventional Radiology and RPA (e.g., feeding tube placements, drain placements, dialysis catheter removals).
  • Collaborates with radiology team, physicians, nurses, and other professionals in diagnostic testing procedures, fluoroscopy, trauma, and surgery.
  • Prepares patients for procedures, explains procedures to create a comfortable environment.
  • Maintains sterile technique and prepares patient procedure rooms; documents appropriately.
  • Assists clinicians with procedures and operates special procedure equipment; adapts technical factors as needed.
  • Acts as a resource for complex procedures and shares improvements with the team.
  • Positions patients to obtain the best image and follows provider directions for imaging parameters.
  • Maintains radiation safety and follows Health and Safety policies for quality patient care.
  • Recognizes, reports, and records observations in compliance with system policies and regulatory agencies.
  • Maintains equipment, assists with quality control and performance improvement as required.
  • Performs clerical duties, transports patients, maintains supplies, and supports unit cleanliness.
  • Participates in student training and on-call or standby as requested.
  • Demonstrates competency with PACS, EMR, and teleradiology systems.
  • Provides coverage for General Radiology in Bend including on-call, holiday, and weekend relief as needed.
  • Supports organizational vision, Lean principles, and maintains a safe environment for caregivers, patients, and guests.
  • Maintains professionalism, confidentiality, and compliance with laws, regulations, policies, and procedures; reports known or suspected violations and cooperates with investigations.
  • Delivers customer service and patient care that is timely, efficient, and accurate; uses AIDET techniques to prepare patients for procedures (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank).
  • May perform additional duties of similar complexity within the organization as required.

Education

  • Required: Graduate of a certified radiologic technology training program; licensure and certification as required for practice.
  • Preferred: N/A

Licensure/Certification/Registration

  • Required: Current Oregon Board of Medical Imaging (OBMI), ARRT in Radiologic Technology (RT). American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
  • Preferred: ARRT in MRI, Bone Densitometry, Mammography, Cardiovascular Interventional Radiography, or Vascular Interventional Radiography.

Experience

  • Required: N/A
  • Preferred: One (1) year in diagnostic radiography and one (1) year C-arm/portable x-ray equipment experience.

Personal Protective Equipment

Must be able to wear appropriate PPE to perform the job safely.

Physical Requirements

  • Category:
    Patient Care Level 3
  • Standing/walking, keyboard use, speaking clearly, hearing normal speech (75%+).
  • Occasional lifting (1-25 lbs) and other activities (50%), including sitting, bending, stooping, overhead reaching, 25-50 lbs as applicable.
  • Rarely climbing stairs; exposure to elemental factors as described; BBP exposure risk.
