Network Deployment Planner - Scaling, DCC Communities

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a Network Technician to join our infrastructure operations team. You will support scalability of several data center locations, assist with capacity management, and help automate and scale our network infrastructure. The role requires autonomy, strong detail orientation, excellent communication skills, and experience supporting large‑scale, enterprise‑class networks. Network implementation, troubleshooting, and documentation methodology are critical.
Daily Responsibilities- Participate in migration, basic configuration, and rollout of new or upgraded hardware.
- Manage work and priorities through a ticketing system and workflows to complete customer requests and projects.
- Work closely with Network Engineering & Technical Project Manager teams to ensure fast, smooth rollout of established designs and products.
- Troubleshoot networking, routing, inter‑connectivity issues, device configuration, and low‑level application interaction.
- Troubleshoot cabling infrastructure connectivity issues including patch panels and patch cords.
- Travel up to 20% within geographical work area; occasional travel outside traditional work area may be requested.
- Contribute to developing comprehensive 6–8 month network implementation roadmaps aligned with AWS DC expansion targets.
- Create and optimize network position layouts and rack placement strategies for data‑centre floor space utilization.
- Review and contribute to High‑Level Design (HLD) documentation.
- Coordinate with engineering teams to validate technical requirements and design specifications.
- Develop capacity‑planning models to ensure infrastructure scalability.
- Create standardized planning templates and methodologies for network implementations.
- Lead end‑to‑end project planning for multiple concurrent network implementation initiatives.
- Develop and maintain detailed project schedules, milestones, and dependencies.
- Manage project scope and quality parameters.
- Conduct risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies.
- Iteratively improve planning by incorporating lessons learned from recently deployed projects.
- Coordinate cross‑functional teams to ensure alignment on project deliverables.
- Track and report weekly project progress to stakeholders.
- Develop project inventory forecasts and requirements.
- Optimize counts using prior surplus spares.
- Coordinate with procurement teams for resource acquisition.
- Manage vendor relationships and delivery schedules.
- Establish procurement timelines aligned with project schedules.
- Establish and maintain project‑management frameworks and best practices.
- Develop sustainable and repeatable planning processes.
- Create and maintain project documentation and reporting standards.
- Drive continuous improvement in planning methodologies.
- Build and maintain stakeholder communication channels.
- Coordinate with regional teams for standardized planning approaches and iterative improvement.
- Sit in front of a computer for an 8‑hour shift with breaks, maintaining alertness and attention to detail.
- Lift and/or move up to 40 pounds; participate in group lifts of 41 pounds or more.
- Walk job sites on uneven terrain.
- Work safely at heights and from ladders.
- 1+ year of computer networking experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field.
- Experience with Linux operating systems.
- Experience troubleshooting and repairing computer hardware.
- Ability to lift and rack equipment up to 40 pounds.
- Can work in cramped spaces or elevated locations while following health & safety guidelines.
- Experience resolving customer issues under pressure.
- Experience managing work and priorities via a ticketing system.
- Experience with cabling infrastructure best practices and methodologies.
- Experience in a data‑center environment (racking, cable management, hot/cold aisle containment).
