Job Overview

As a Data Center Technician you will maintain the heartbeat of the world’s most innovative technology platform, ensuring seamless data center operations that power millions of businesses and services worldwide.

The Data Center Technician position involves in‑depth hardware and network diagnostics, physical repair, and participation in an on‑call rotation. AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure, supporting all data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that keep customers able to innovate.

NOTE:

PDX is an AWS Gov Cloud region. As required by our contracts with the federal government, effective February 24, 2026, logical access to the AWS Gov Cloud region will be restricted to Amazon employees who are U.S. Citizens. Gov Cloud may NOT be accessed from outside of the United States.

NOTE:

A lump‑sum stipend will be provided to eligible candidates who relocate for this position.

Key Job Responsibilities
  • Perform server rack installations, hardware break‑fix on various components, and troubleshoot network issues.
  • Respond to operational incidents that impact service availability and carry out routine network, server hardware, and operating system repairs.
  • Serve as a primary contact point for internal and external stakeholders, including engineers, software developers, vendors, and contractors.
  • Perform on‑call duties and participate in scheduled maintenance and change management activities.
  • Contribute to documentation and process improvement initiatives based on your analysis of operational issues.
  • Help interview, train, and onboard new team members.
Physical Requirements
  • Lifting and moving material up to 40 pounds each.
  • Working in cramped and/or elevated locations.
  • Bending, lifting, stretching, and reaching.
  • Standing and walking for up to 8+ hours a day.
  • Ascending and descending ladders, stairs, and gangways safely and without limitation.
  • Working in an industrial environment.
  • Work shifts longer than 8 hours to support 24/7 operations (covering both night and day shifts).
  • Potential travel to established locations for training until the designated site becomes fully operational.
Essential Requirements
  • Ability to travel to or commute between data center locations as needed.
  • Willingness to temporarily work at alternative sites during training periods or until assigned facility is operational.
  • Travel frequency will vary based on business needs and operational status of assigned facility.
  • Candidates must be able to travel (over 50 miles) or commute (less than 50 miles) to active data center sites as required by business needs.

  • Take ownership of technical issues brought by the customer base, engaging other teams when needed to drive resolution.
  • Show a strong aptitude for troubleshooting and problem solving.
  • Resolve problems at their root and understand the broader context.
  • Maintain service level agreements through proactive issue detection and reporting.
  • Act independently in the absence of direction or support.
  • Improve effectiveness through process innovation.
  • Work shift work that includes days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Basic Qualifications
  • 2+ years of computer/server hardware troubleshooting experience, or experience related IT.
  • 2+ years of computer layer 1/2 networking (including troubleshooting and repair) experience.
  • Work flexible schedule including weekends, nights, and holidays.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of network design, protocols and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of Linux/Unix Administration.
  • Bachelor's degree in an IT‑related field (e.g., Computer Science, Network Engineering), or experience in professional or military IT‑related roles.
