Systems Engineer

Key Job Responsibilities- Oversee all aspects of the data center's critical physical infrastructure and ensure work within the space is of high quality and does not impact internal or external customers.
- Manage teams of 24/7 engineering technicians across all facets of their career development.
- Engage in improvement projects, often requiring coordination with multiple support teams, and drive them from conception to completion.
- Coordinate daily with a multitude of third‑party vendors to ensure adherence to contracted SLAs.
- Effectively and efficiently manage the operations budget and expenditures.
- Serve as the after‑hour on‑call Data Center Facility Manager, responding to incidents, investigating, mitigating and recovering issues.
- Oversee operations and management of technicians responsible for routine and emergency services on critical systems such as switch gear, generators, UPS systems, power distribution equipment, chillers, cooling towers, computer‑room air handlers, building monitoring systems, and more.
- Maintain high reliability and performance while keeping operating costs in facilities at a minimum, ensuring more than 99.999 % uptime for mission‑critical servers.
This role focuses on ensuring overall availability and reliability to meet or exceed defined service levels of data center operations.
Basic Qualifications- High school or equivalent diploma.
- 4+ years of experience in a management position with 5 or more direct reports.
- 5+ years of relevant work experience in a data center or other mission‑critical environment with knowledge in UPS, generators, HVAC, evaporators, and other critical infrastructure or 7+ years of technical (military/trade school) training and/or experience.
- 5+ years of work in a management position with 5 or more direct reports.
- Advanced electrical or mechanical certifications (Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant engineering discipline).
- 7+ years of experience working in a data center or other mission‑critical environment with an emphasis on building and equipment operation.
- Excellent understanding of electrical and mechanical systems involved in critical data center operations including feeders, transformers, generators, switch gear, UPS systems, ATS units, PDU units, chillers, pumps, air‑handling units, and CRAHU units.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including technical writing or business justifications (white paper experience).
PDX is an AWS Gov Cloud region. As required by our contracts with the federal government, effective February 24 2026, logical access to the AWS Gov Cloud region is restricted to Amazon employees who are U.S. citizens. Gov Cloud may NOT be accessed from outside the United States.
Location:
USA, OR, Boardman – £‑£ USD annually.
The base salary range for this position is listed above. Your Amazon package will include sign‑on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
