Overview

Join our AWS team and become a critical guardian of global cloud infrastructure. You will help maintain data center operations that power millions of businesses and services worldwide.

Data Center Technicians work both independently and with a team. Strong prioritization, organizational skills, effective communication, and the ability to react quickly are essential. Responsibilities include hardware and network repair, equipment installation, documentation, and problem solving within the data center space. The environment operates 24/7, and travel within and outside the regional work area is required.

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of AWS global infrastructure, including data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure continual access for customers. The team collaborates with software, hardware, network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other roles to deliver safety, security, and scalable capacity at optimized cost. Lump sum relocation stipend is provided to eligible candidates.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Performing server rack installations, hardware break-fix on components, troubleshooting network issues, and responding to operational incidents; escalate to senior technicians and management as needed
  • Serve as primary contact point for internal and external stakeholders, including engineers, software developers, vendors, and contractors
  • Perform on-call duties and participate in scheduled maintenance and change management activities
  • Contribute to documentation and process improvement initiatives based on analysis of operational issues
  • Help train and onboard new team members

Physical requirements:

  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds; participate in group lifts for 41+ pounds
  • Work in cramped and/or elevated locations; bending, lifting, stretching, and reaching
  • Standing and walking for up to 8+ hours a day
  • Ascending/descending ladders, stairs, and gangways safely
  • Work in a noisy environment
  • Work shifts longer than 8 hours to support 24/7 operations (night and day shifts)

The role may be assigned to a facility still under development and may require travel to established locations for training until the site is fully operational.

Essential requirements:

  • Ability to travel to or commute between data center locations as needed
  • Willingness to temporarily work at alternative sites during training or until the facility is operational
  • Travel frequency will vary based on business needs
  • Candidates must be able to travel (over 50 miles) or commute (less than 50 miles) to active data center sites as required

A day in the life

  • Take ownership of technical issues, engaging other teams when needed to drive resolution
  • Solve problems at their root and understand the broader context
  • Maintain SLAs through proactive issue detection and reporting
  • Work rotating shifts, including days/nights/weekends/holidays; travel within the regional area is required; a reliable personal vehicle and valid driver's license are required as company transportation is not provided
Basic Qualifications
  • 1+ years of computer/server hardware troubleshooting or related IT experience
  • High school or equivalent diploma
  • Flexible schedule including weekends, nights, and holidays
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of network design, protocols and Layer 1/2 troubleshooting
  • Associate's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience
  • Experience managing work and priorities through a ticketing system
  • Experience in a data center or other critical environment
