Manages site Health and Safety programs to ensure a safe, accident‑free work environment. Oversees the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of a facility-wide safety culture through technical support, program development, and relationship building.
Responsibilities- Lead all aspects of the health and safety program, including training, monitoring, and assurance of a safe workplace.
- Plan, deliver, and evaluate training programs for managers and employees on workplace safety practices.
- Assist in accident investigations and prepare required regulatory accident reports.
- Conduct inspections, audits, and hazard assessments throughout the plant and at other facilities.
- Facilitate the Shift Safety Committee process and serve as an active resource for subcommittees.
- Administer initial Workers Compensation functions and guide the plant toward compliance with state, federal, and local safety regulations.
- Determine and direct necessary compliance training for all personnel to meet OSHA, TOSHA, and company training requirements.
- Collaborate with the engineering team to deliver safe capital work plans and ensure new equipment meets current safety standards.
- Develop, audit, and maintain the site Emergency Action Plan.
- Represent the company in the local LEPC and act as liaison with local emergency response crews.
- Partner with corporate EHS to understand site losses and develop plans to improve results.
- Oversee the Safety Coordinator and own the overall site security program, working with the security contractor to meet security metrics.
- Identify and resolve problems in a timely manner, gathering and analyzing information, developing alternative solutions, and working well in group problem‑solving situations.
- Bachelor’s degree from a four‑year university in Industrial Hygiene, Safety Management, or a strongly preferred related field.
- Minimum of five years of industrial safety experience; CSP certification preferred.
- Strong PC skills, including Microsoft Office and Enablon reporting.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience leading teams and building a culture of collaboration and trust.
- Comprehensive understanding of OSHA regulations and the ability to interpret state and federal regulations for compliance.
- Ability to write regulatory reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Experience performing risk assessments and audits.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and deliver accurate conclusions.
- Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form and manage abstract and concrete variables.
- Ability to work off shifts occasionally.
- Awareness of potential occupational hazards, including wet/humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, high or precarious places, fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme weather, vibration, and moderate noise levels.
