Position
The Feed Mill Operator – $17.25 hourly
Responsibilities- Follow standard operating instructions and procedures for all operator areas, including flushing procedures for batching and pelleting, and record keeping.
- Operate all equipment and tools (computer, grinders, forklift, and other tools) in all areas of the mill.
- Prepare and maintain shift activity reports; track production reports, sampling reports, bag dump reports, reconciliations, and other required documentation.
- Regulate the flow of materials and monitor the flow to ensure attainment of specified product specifications.
- Perform daily inventory of feed, bulk, and micro ingredients.
- Perform housekeeping duties as directed, keeping designated areas clean and supporting co‑workers in other areas.
- Maintain and ensure the safety of all employees and company assets.
- Acquire and maintain necessary certifications (e.g., weigh master, forklift). Maintain tote system stock and support micro‑ingredient filling at batching areas and receiving.
- Comply with all environmental laws, company IPS and EMS policies, and procedures.
- Report environmental issues immediately to supervisor.
- Read and understand the company’s emergency notification process.
- Conduct duties in a way that maintains compliance with ISO
22000 Feed Safety and Quality Program, pursuing opportunities for continuous improvement. - Perform other related duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED (preferred).
- Ability to read and understand safety rules, maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to recognize critical areas of the mill’s control feed/ingredient system.
- Proficiency in reading and speaking English.
- Basic computer skills desired.
- Capacity to work an average of 50 hours per week, including nights, holidays, and weekends.
- Support for the mission of producing high‑quality pellet feed.
- Willingness and ability to learn and perform across different areas of the feed mill process.
- Ability to work weekends and holidays.
- Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment.
- Respectful, approachable, and team‑oriented, building strong working relationships.
- Capacity to tolerate grain dust, chemical odors, and frequently noisy conditions while working in wet, humid, and variable temperature environments.
Operating in a mill environment involves frequent standing, walking, and use of hands to handle or feel, reach, and manipulate equipment and materials. Workers must lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, stoop, kneel, or crouch, and work in extreme seasonal temperatures from hot to cold. Grain dust, chemical odors, fumes, airborne particles, and noise are common; wet or humid conditions are also typical.
