Position Summary The Bin Sorter Operator (Receiving Chain) is responsible for operating the bin sorter system and supporting receiving department processes to ensure accurate lumber grading, sorting, and material flow. This role plays a key part in maintaining product quality, inventory accuracy, and efficient production support within a continuous improvement–focused manufacturing environment.

Employees in this position are expected to operate equipment safely, follow grading standards, support lean manufacturing initiatives, and maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work area.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Bin Sorter & Receiving Operations Operate bin sorter, stacker, and strapping equipment safely and effectively

Sort lumber into designated bins according to grading and supervisor direction

Deposit boards from receiving chain into proper locations

Ensure accuracy of sorted and graded material

Monitor workflow to maintain efficiency and meet production timelines

Grading, Quality & Material Handling Support lumber grading processes in alignment with NHLA standards and internal grading systems

Identify quality concerns and escalate issues

Assist in maintaining product quality standards to maximize yield and minimize waste

Load, move, and properly store units of lumber

Ensure proper handling to reduce material damage and loss Equipment Operation & Maintenance Operate bin sorter system and related receiving equipment

Operate MJ Rip Saw and Newman Whitney equipment as needed

Perform preventative maintenance on bin sorter and related systems

Report equipment issues to supervisor

Inventory, Staging & Material Flow Locate inventory and support order fulfillment

Identify materials by SKUStage materials for manufacturing and shipping

Restock materials to maintain organization

Safety & Workplace Practices Follow all safety policies and procedures

Ensure safe operation of equipment and forklifts

Report all accidents and unsafe conditions

Maintain a clean and organized work area Production Support & Team Responsibilities Assist in other receiving roles as needed

Communicate effectively with team members

Support continuous improvement initiatives

Meet production goals and expectations

General Responsibilities Exercise care in handling materials, equipment, and personnel

Support department goals related to quality and efficiency

Maintain a clean, orderly work environment

Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Knowledge of bin sorter systems preferred

Ability to operate production and material handling equipment

Basic math skills (linear, board, and square footage)
Ability to read, write, and communicate in English Ability to use Microsoft Office, Epicor, and related systems

Strong attention to detail and teamwork

Physical Demands Stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, and balance

Use hands and arms to handle materials

Lift up to 25 lbs regularly, 50 lbs frequently, and 100 lbs occasionally

Vision requirements include close, distance, and depth perception

Work Environment Indoor receiving and manufacturing environment

Frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts

Exposure to dust, fumes, and noise

Strong emphasis on safety and teamwork
