Environmental, Health, Safety & Security Manager

We are seeking an experienced Environmental, Health, Safety & Security (EHS&S) Manager to lead environmental compliance, occupational safety, process safety, industrial hygiene, emergency preparedness, and site-security programs within a complex industrial processing facility.

This is a highly visible, boots-on-the-ground plant leadership role, not a primarily corporate or administrative EHS position.

The strongest candidates will bring direct EHS&S experience from fuel ethanol, renewable fuels, specialty alcohols, hazardous chemical manufacturing, industrial processing, grain/agricultural processing, food or beverage manufacturing, or another operation involving combustible dust, flammable materials, process safety, and significant environmental permitting requirements.

This individual will work closely with plant leadership, operations, maintenance, engineering, contractors, employees, and regulatory agencies to strengthen safety culture, maintain compliance, investigate incidents, manage risk, and continuously improve environmental and safety performance.

Own and manage key environmental programs including:

• Air permits and emissions compliance
• Leak Detection and Repair (LDAR)
• Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) reporting
• Greenhouse gas reporting
• Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) requirements
• Stormwater management
• Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasure (SPCC)
• Hazardous materials management
• Hazardous waste
• Regulatory reporting, notifications, applications, and recordkeeping

• Lead site-specific occupational safety and compliance programs.
• Manage Process Safety Management (PSM) and Risk Management Plan (RMP) requirements.
• Support process-safety activities involving hazardous chemicals and flammable materials.
• Manage safe-work permitting including JHA, hot work, confined space, energized electrical work, line opening, and related permits.
• Lead emergency preparedness and Emergency Action Plan programs.
• Support Dust Hazard Analysis (DHA) and combustible-dust risk management.
• Conduct plant safety audits, inspections, and field observations.
• Lead incident and near-miss investigations, identify root causes, and drive corrective/preventive actions.
• Manage contractor and driver safety programs, training, and audits.
• Maintain OSHA recordkeeping, including OSHA 300/300A requirements.
• Coordinate industrial hygiene monitoring, respirator programs, hearing conservation, PPE assessments, and gas-monitor calibration.
• Manage Safety Data Sheets and chemical-approval processes.
• Lead new-hire safety orientation and ongoing employee safety training.
• Support EHS&S activities during planned plant shutdowns and outages.
• Participate in insurance-carrier and third-party safety audits and drive findings through closure.
• Support applicable food/feed safety and quality programs.

• Maintain a strong daily presence throughout plant operations.
• Partner with operations, maintenance, engineering, and plant leadership to identify and mitigate risk.
• Lead and support employee safety committees and toolbox-training programs.
• Coach managers, supervisors, employees, and contractors on EHS&S expectations.
• Develop and deliver technical and regulatory training.
• Track EHS&S metrics, identify trends, and drive continuous improvement.
• Lead implementation of new regulatory requirements, policies, procedures, and compliance programs.
• Build a proactive safety culture where employees identify hazards, raise concerns, and participate in solutions.

• 5+ years of Environmental, Health, Safety & Security experience in an industrial or process-manufacturing environment.
• Four-year degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Chemistry, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or another science-related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Direct experience in hazardous chemical manufacturing, fuel ethanol, specialty alcohols, beverage alcohol, renewable fuels, or similarly regulated process industries strongly preferred.
• Strong understanding of hazardous and flammable-material production processes.
• Knowledge of hazards associated with grain handling, combustible dust, chemical processing, water/wastewater systems, and industrial production environments.
• Demonstrated experience with PSM, RMP, OSHA, EPA, environmental permitting, air compliance, hazardous materials, and waste-management programs.
