Opportunity
The California Wellness Foundation (Cal Wellness) is seeking a skillful, creative, and strategic communications professional to serve as a Senior Communications Officer. This role requires experience in developing, executing, and managing strategic communications and a full range of communications tools and tactics that advance the mission of the Foundation. The Senior Communications Officer will report directly to the Director of Communications and will be a key member of the communications team within the Public Affairs Department.
Cal Wellness aims to step more fully into its role as a disruptive force that pushes the boundaries of traditional philanthropy, advocates fiercely for racial and social justice, and uses its voice and influence to improve health and wellness for Californians. The Senior Communications Officer will amplify Cal Wellness’ work using strategy, storytelling, and influence, collaborate across the organization, and lead strategic communications for program teams and key program areas.
The ideal candidate is creative and strategic, can work collaboratively while also managing projects independently, and possesses excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. The candidate should anticipate needs, adapt to emerging issues, and prioritize tasks to work quickly and effectively in a dynamic team environment.
Public Affairs TeamThe Public Affairs Department merges communications, government relations, public policy, and community engagement. Guided by the Vice‑President of Public Affairs, the team collaborates with department colleagues and other Cal Wellness departments. We serve as strategic partners to amplify stories, develop proactive communication campaigns, engage government to build relationships, influence public policy, and support direct community engagement. Our work happens with grantmakers, philanthropic organizations, and in places where policy is made and considered.
