General Purpose
The primary responsibility of this position is to supervise the day-to-day nursing activities of the facility during your tour of duty, ensuring compliance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern the facility and maintaining the highest degree of quality care at all times.

Administrative Functions- Assist the Director of Nursing Services in directing day‑to‑day nursing functions according to current rules, regulations, and guidelines.
- Participate in developing, maintaining, and updating written policies and procedures that govern nursing operations.
- Ensure reference material and the Nursing Service Procedures Manual are current and meet the day‑to‑day needs of residents.
- Make written and oral reports/recommendations to the Director concerning the operation of the nursing service department.
- Review policies, procedure manuals, and job descriptions; recommend revisions to the Director.
- Develop methods for coordinating nursing services with other resident services to ensure continuity of care.
- Participate in the development, maintenance and implementation of the facility’s quality assurance program for nursing services.
- Participate in facility surveys and inspections requested by authorized government agencies.
- Review and assist in updating resident discharge plans as required.
- Complete accident/incident reports.
- Interpret department policies and procedures to personnel, residents, visitors, and government agencies as required.
- Perform administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, and charting.
- Maintain confidentiality of facility information and report suspected or known violations of data security.
- Attend committee meetings (Infection Control, Policy Advisory, Pharmaceutical, Quality Assessment, etc.) as required.
- Prepare written and oral reports of nursing services for submission to committees.
- Provide information to the Quality Assurance and Assessment Committee as requested.
- Participate in developing agendas for Care Plan Committee meetings.
- Review discharge plans for the Care Plan Committee and implement recommendations from committees.
- Ensure adequate staffing of licensed nurses, certified nursing assistants, and trainee aides to maintain quality care.
- Assign work and delegate work authority to Charge Nurses.
- Ensure all nursing assistants are trained and all aides are supervised by a licensed nurse.
- Conduct daily rounds to verify proper nursing standards; report findings to the Director.
- Monitor absenteeism and ensure adequate staffing at all times.
- Enforce departmental policies, dress codes, and complaint resolution procedures.
- Foster a positive work environment and lead staff performance evaluations.
- Ensuring fair disciplinary actions and reporting occupational exposures and fraudulent incidents.
- Inform personnel of new admissions and manage room assignments.
- Assist with physician visits and encourage timely documentation of progress notes and orders.
- Collaborate with residents, families, and physicians in care planning.
- Observe and evaluate residents' physical and emotional status; provide direct nursing care as needed.
- Perform IV initiation, specimen collection, vital sign monitoring, and documentation.
- Authorize restraints when necessary in accordance with policy.
- Monitor medication administration and review medication cards for accuracy.
- Inspect treatment areas and ensure residents who cannot call for help are frequently checked.
- Assist in transportation and transition of discharged residents.
- Provide notifications regarding resident death and funeral arrangements.
- Develop, conduct, and schedule in‑service training for nursing staff.
- Assist in planning supervisory programs for trainee aides.
- Participate in continuing education to maintain licensure and stay current in practice.
