Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse; Med-Surg RN

Overview

Yale New Haven Hospital, Saint Raphael Campus is actively hiring Registered Nurses for a variety of Medicine units across the following locations: SLA 3, SLA 4, SLA 5, V5N, V5W, V4W, Cel 3, and Cel 4. These units include Adult Acute Care Medicine with Telemetry, Adult Acute Care Renal and Palliative Specialty Medicine, and Acute Care for Older Adults Medicine with Telemetry.

• Assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and supervise individual patient care on a nursing unit/department according to unit policies and procedures.
• Provide supervision of non‑RN personnel on the assigned unit.
• When assuming the charge role, delegate and supervise unit activities.
• May be required to work on other nursing units according to staff and patient distribution.
• Perform other duties as assigned or requested to maintain a high level of service.
• Function as a preceptor to new staff.
• Function as a charge nurse.
• Meet performance expectations for customer service, teamwork, resource utilization, and staff and self‑development as outlined in performance reviews.
• Demonstrate competency in the care of neuro patients, including neuro assessment, airway management, and care of trached patients.
• Assist physicians with special neuro procedures.
• Demonstrate knowledge of the 'Tia' teaching program.
• Perform pharyngeal, endotracheal, and tracheostomy suctioning according to established policy and procedure.
• Demonstrate skill and understanding in the use of equipment and care of patients in a halo brace.
• Demonstrate nursing responsibilities and interventions for patients on ventilators.

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred.
• Proficient in the use of computer software, including electronic patient records.
• Must have ability to use the internet for literature searches regarding patient care.
• Valid state of Connecticut Registered Nurse license.

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
