PAY GRADE: B14 ($43.61 - $65.96 per hour, depending on experience)

$5,500 HIRING BONUS pro-rated by FTE until 10/31/26!!

DESCRIPTION

Provides a variety of professional and routine medical service which are related to the health care of adults in custody (AIC) s legally in the Grant County jail, using independent judgement in the triage and assessment of medical, dental, and mental health problems of adults in custody (AIC) s to prevent illness and communicable disease and to promote health. Operates under the direction of the Grant County Public Health Clinic Manager.

Works with jail/corrections staff (corrections officers and sergeants), and outside providers in the collaboration and provision of adult in custody (AIC) health care. Does related work as required.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

An employee in this classification may perform professional work in the delivery of a variety settings, although corrections will be the main setting where nursing services will be provided. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Public Health Clinic Manager/Nurse Practitioner who reviews work on the basis of results attained, case conferences and evaluation of progress on established goals.

Supervision is not normally a responsibility of positions in this classification.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • 1. Performs professional health nursing services following the health care policies and procedures of the Grant County Corrections Facility. Duties are performed in compliance with the Nurse Practice Act and applicable, laws, administrative rules and guidelines.
  • 2. Interviews adults in custody (AIC) s, gathers medical history, performs general health screenings and assessments, performs examinations, takes samples, and provides nursing diagnosis. Reviews intake health assessments and follows up on any medications and/or health concerns.
  • 3. Reviews and triages medical requests and evaluates, treats, refers, and follows up as appropriate.
  • 4. Provides information to authorized entities or as directed by the sheriff or the courts.
  • 5. Establishes and maintains adult in custody (AIC) medical charts and other necessary records. Initiates follow-up care and makes referrals to physicians, other community agencies and health resources as necessary.
  • 6. Manages the medications prescribed by the adult’s in custody (AIC) provider, procurement, administrations, security, storage, inventory and disposal of pharmaceuticals within the facility. Trains corrections staff on medication administration.
  • 7. Coordinates with the jail staff and the public health department/other healthcare service providers.
  • 8. Attends scheduled staff meetings as necessary/required.
  • 9. Maintains assigned work area in neat and organized condition.
  • 10. Investigates communicable disease cases in conjunction with the public health department; provides and or refers for treatment; completes necessary forms and/or reports.
  • 11. May be required to develop policies and procedures for healthcare services in accordance with nursing practice and jail regulations.
  • 12. Work with Sheriff’s office to coordinate and complete required training.

    DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
    • Thorough knowledge of and/or a teachable attitude of methods, principles, techniques and practices of nursing. Considerable knowledge of and/or willingness to learn in a timely fashion the laws and regulations governing institutional health requirements, laws, administrative rules and guidelines.
