Controls Technician, Data Center Capacity Delivery
Amazon Data Services, Inc. offers this role as part of AWS Infrastructure Services, which owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of AWS global infrastructure.
Responsibilities- Participate in installation, testing, troubleshooting, and startup of BMS and EPMS equipment and controls systems at data centers.
- Verify, configure, and troubleshoot field devices including AHU controllers, VFDs, temperature and pressure sensors, and third‑party network or serial devices.
- Perform point‑to‑point checkouts between field devices and controllers.
- Conduct first‑line diagnostics, troubleshooting, and maintenance of instrumentation associated with the BMS and EPMS.
- Configure networks, perform communication testing between third‑party devices and controllers or servers.
- Configure and calibrate sensors, read and understand electrical schematics and control panel drawings.
- Supervise low‑voltage electrical contractors for wiring and installation of field devices.
- Provide commissioning and systems‑level testing support, including root‑cause analysis.
- Deliver red‑lined drawings and recommendations based on field work and verify accuracy of as‑built drawings.
- Ensure all personnel on site use proper safety methodology.
- Work on‑call and rotating schedule when required and respond to after‑hours emergencies.
- Support ticketing systems, root‑cause analysis, and task prioritization.
- Walk jobsites in uneven terrain and work at heights from ladders.
- Use hands and fingers, reach with arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
- Lift and/or move up to 49 pounds; participate in group lifts for 50 pounds or more.
- Work shifts longer than eight hours.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 1+ year industrial controls or HVAC controls experience, or 3+ years in lieu of a degree.
- Understanding of industrial control systems, meters, devices, sensors, relays, and troubleshooting.
- Experience with low‑voltage controls, wiring, networking signals, electrical and mechanical systems, computers and operating systems.
- Ability to work non‑standard hours, rotating shifts and overtime.
- ISA Certified Controls System Technician (CCST) Level I or higher.
- Experience with communication protocols (MQTT, BACnet, MODBUS).
- 5+ years in controls/automation, construction or related technical field.
- Knowledge of engineering documentation, electrical and mechanical diagrams, SOPs.
- Experience in data centers or mission‑critical environments.
- Fundamental network design and low‑voltage cabling knowledge.
- Prior AWS/Amazon experience.
- 4+ years military service (preferred).
Base hourly salary: $32.00 – $57.00 USD (locations: OH – Marysville, OR – Boardman, VA – Herndon). Includes sign‑on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs).
