The Advanced Process Control (APC) Engineer will work closely with existing APC team members, and the Operations and Technical departments to support the refinery's control system applications. The successful candidate will provide control support for new capital projects, new advanced control applications, existing day-to-day troubleshooting, and field Area Business Team questions. The APC Engineer reports directly to the Lead APC Engineer.
Roles and Responsibilities- Provide process control related technical support to area business team as requested.
- Interact with plant operating personnel, Process Engineers, Operations Management to identify, troubleshoot, and improve regulatory and advanced control (DMC) applications.
- Design and implement process control applications associated with Honeywell process control systems such as TDC
2000 Hiway Gateway, TDC
3000 APM / HPM, and Experion PKS. - Initiate and lead APC projects within the facility such as creating new advanced control / DMC applications.
- Develop and/or modify inferentials / soft sensors for monitoring and/or DMC applications.
- Develop and/or modify process control loops on various versions of Honeywell control systems.
- Develop and/or modify process graphics for various Honeywell process control systems.
- Ensure modifications to process control system applications are in-line with APC best practices.
- Respond quickly and accurately to APC issues and concerns.
- Willingness to support APC related and DCS related projects outside of normal business hours.
- Assist with Maintenance to troubleshoot issues with field instrumentation.
- Assist with Operations to provide understanding of process control applications.
- Ensure that both existing and proposed control applications are in compliance with environmental and safety best practices.
- Participate in Process Safety Management Programs such as Management of Change.
- Participate in RCFA and incident investigations as needed by providing process history, alarm history, and/or system functionality.
- Ability to prioritize and make continued progress on multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to acquire, evaluate, and make recommendations for process control applications.
- Provide process control related technical and/or project management support for capital projects from design to start-up.
- Execute process control work with attention to detail.
- Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, equivalent degree, or work experience required.
- 3+ years refining / chemicals experience (controls).
- Preferred knowledge of DMCPlus modeling software.
- Preferred knowledge of Honeywell TDC
3000 / Experion programming.
