Wildlife Safari

The park opened in 1972 and is the only drive thru animal park in the state of Oregon. Wildlife Safari features over 550 animals representing their wild counterparts from all around the globe, making Wildlife Safari a true intersection of human and nature nestled into the picturesque hills of Southern Oregon. There is also a Walkabout Village for guests to meets many animals for free, with a gift shop, restaurant, train rides, and Barnyard.

Summer Educator

Position Overview

The Education Department is currently accepting applicants with great people skills, a passion for animals, and an energetic, positive personality to fill one of our Summer Educator positions. Working together alongside the Education

Summer day camps include ages 5-12. The educator will work with the Education Department to develop and implement all summer educational programs.

The ideal candidate will work well within a team setting as well as independently, demonstrate strong communication skills, have the ability to multi-task, and possess a strong desire to work with youth. This is a unique, exciting and hands-on opportunity to further one's career in Wildlife education.

Responsibilities

* Could include husbandry and handling of animals in the Education animal collection.

* Assist in creating and implementing fun activities such as Education Ambassador booths, prepare lessons, animal encounters, etc.

* Assist in creating curriculum.

* Run the day camps, assist in outreach presentations, and onsite keeper talks as needed

* Assist with the daily operation of the Education Department

Qualifications

* Preferred experience as a formal or an informal educator or interpreter, including creating and implementing Conservation Education curriculum preferred but not required.

* Exotic animal handling and husbandry experience preferred but not required.

* Certification in CPR/First Aid preferred but not required

* Able to speak to the public both individually and in a presentation setting

* Good people skills and problem solving skills.

* Valid driver's license for a minimum of three (3) years and clean driving record

* Ability to work 40 hours a week, typically 8 am - 5 pm with schedule flexibility for after hours presentations

* Required to work outdoors and indoors in extreme weather conditions; ability to lift up to 50 (fifty) pounds.

* Negative TB and drug test, including for marijuana

* Candidates must agree to a background check

Start and end dates range from beginning of May to September and are flexible. Applications will be accepted until position is filled.
