Champoeg State Heritage Area – Oregon State Parks (Near Portland, Oregon).
A permanent, full-time Park Ranger 3 responsible for leading a major program or facility, coordinating activities across management unit boundaries, and mentoring staff across the region.
Responsibilities- Lead and manage resource interpretation, cultural or natural resource restoration, complex utility operations, and maintenance programs.
- Enforce park rules, provide visitor services, and handle conflict resolution.
- Coordinate activities across management unit boundaries and serve as mentor to permanent and seasonal staff.
- Provide guidance and training in specialized skills essential for OPRD programs and properties.
- Operate campground and day‑use area operations, including special events, reservations, and weddings.
- Support and encourage safe work practices through safety programs, facility and equipment inspections.
- Develop, coordinate, evaluate, and present interpretive content and special events to school students and the public.
- Five years of visitor services experience (rule enforcement, interpretation, special events) and/or maintenance experience (construction trades, landscaping); or
- Associate’s degree in Park and Recreation Administration, Natural Resource Management, or Environmental Studies plus 3.5 years of visitor services experience and/or maintenance experience; or
- Bachelor’s degree in Park and Recreation Administration, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Studies, or related field plus 2 years of visitor services experience and/or maintenance experience.
- Must successfully complete a criminal record and driving record check that meets OPRD criteria at the time of hire and throughout employment, maintaining a valid driver’s license.
- Experience leading, mentoring, and training coworkers, volunteers, and work crews in park maintenance, operations, and resource interpretation.
- Humble, open‑minded, and committed to public service with a spirit of self‑less service.
- Ability to build positive relationships with community partners, stakeholders, government employees, and coworkers.
- Experience evaluating operational procedures, plans, and activities, and recommending improvements.
- Proficiency in all duties of a Park Ranger, including campground operations, day‑use area operations, park maintenance, restroom cleaning, resource interpretation, and employee orientation.
- Experience leading safety programs, facility and equipment safety inspections, and encouraging safe work practices.
