Job Description:

This recruitment will be used to fill 1 part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) undergraduate research assistant for the Field Crops Extension Program at Oregon State University (OSU).

Position Duties
  • This position will assist with a variety of projects for the South Willamette Valley Field Crops Extension and Research Program.

  • This program conducts research on seed and cereal crop production systems including grass seed, clover seed, cereals and other field crops.

  • Current projects include pest management (slugs, voles, insects), soil health, drone aerial imagery, and plant growth regulators.

  • The duties of this position will include set up, sampling and data collection for on-farm field trials. Indoor work will include sample processing, data entry and data analysis.

  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study

  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment

  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard

Preferred
  • Majoring in, or previous course work in agricultural sciences or related fields (e.g.soil science, crop science, horticulture, environmental science, biology, etc.).

  • Experience with GIS.

  • Experience with programming in R, Python or other languages.

Working Conditions/

Schedule:

  • The position will be based at the Linn County Extension Office in Tangent, about 15 minutes from campus.
  • Available hours will be up to the maximum for student employees during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer.
