Description

The Dufur Market is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Kitchen Team Member to join our close-knit team in the heart of Dufur, Oregon. Schedule

Varies – mornings, afternoons, and early evenings (flexible based on business needs and your availability) Weekday and weekends as needed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and assemble made-to-order sandwiches, wraps, and breakfast items according to our custom recipes, customer specifications, and portion control guidelines, ensuring consistent quality, presentation, and accuracy.
  • Grill, cook, and heat proteins, vegetables, and other hot items (e.g., grilled sandwiches, breakfast meats, patties, or sides) on flat-top grills, panini presses, or similar equipment while monitoring cooking times, temperatures, and doneness to meet food safety standards.
  • Fry or prepare hot sides such as fries, hash browns, or other deep-fried/oven-baked items, maintaining proper oil temperatures, draining excess oil, and seasoning as required.
  • Prepare and portion cold items including fresh salads, soups (heating/reheating as needed), deli sides, and accompaniments; follow recipes for dressings, garnishes, and assembly.
  • Monitor food quality, freshness, and temperature throughout preparation and holding; rotate stock using FIFO (first-in, first-out) methods, discard out-of-date or substandard items, and complete temperature/safety logs as required.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary workstation and kitchen area; clean and sanitize grills, fryers, counters, utensils, slicers, and other equipment after each use, in compliance with health department and company food safety protocols.
  • Assist with ingredient prep (e.g., slicing meats/cheeses/vegetables, portioning, washing produce) and restocking stations to ensure readiness for service and minimize downtime during rushes.
  • Package and label deli items efficiently for retail display or catering orders, maintaining presentation quality.
  • Coordinate with team members to fulfill orders efficiently, communicate ticket priorities.
  • Adhere to all food handling, allergen awareness, personal hygiene, and safety procedures, including proper glove use, hair restraints, and cross-contamination prevention.
  • Support inventory management, ingredient restocking, and preparation for the next day's needs.
  • Assist with checking out customers, and occasional front-of-market tasks to ensure excellent customer experience.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Genuine passion for healthy cooking and a positive, team-oriented attitude
  • Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 lbs with or without assistance, and work comfortably in a warm kitchen environment
  • Reliable transportation and consistent availability for a varying schedule (mornings, afternoons, and early evenings, weekdays and weekends)
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality, food safety and proper hygiene practices
  • Basic knife skills for ingredient preparation and precise cutting techniques
  • Basic math skills for measuring and scaling recipes
  • Food Handler's Card (or willingness to obtain one promptly upon hire)
  • Previous kitchen, or food service experience is preferred but not required—we provide thorough training for the right candidate
  • Must be able to pass a drug test, including the absence of Marijuana/THC.

  • Starting pay at $15.05 per hour, actual rate is determined at hire, dependent on work history, experience and food handling license or certificates etc.
